Hi,  Can anyone help me? I am now 6 days late receiving my monthly Government pension.   I have telephone numbers for the DWP but they are  not answering, due to COVID.  On their site there was a message service, but this informed me that it could take 10 working days to answer me.   However, I did fill it in and trust it will not take that long to reply... always living in hope.

In the time I lived here in Spain this has never happened to me before, and I am completely puzzled and at a loss to understand it.  Also, on what to do.  I just want to speak to someone, like in "the good old days".   I always received my pension every 28 days and always on a Monday.   My last one was on the 26 March, 2021.

Has anyone else experienced this?   Any suggestions would be appreciated, as I basically have to live on my pension.

Hi angel

It is, as you say, so frustrating not to be able to speak to someone when there’s a difficulty. Not everything fits into “FAQ’s”. Many say “due to covid” but I remember (😄😄) it being almost as difficult before the dreaded virus.

I’m sure you’ve tried all available numbers, but just in case........🤪🥂

Hi my neighbour had a similar experience, it transpired that she had been written to by DWP to confirm that she was still alive. The letter was mistakenly put in the communal post box of another neighbour who only visits for holidays! When she rang DWP they confirmed that her pension had indeed been suspended,as she had not replied to their letter. I believe she managed to answer all their security questions whilst on the telephone and her pension payments were reinstated. This may not be the case in your situation but I thought I’d mention it.

Kindest regards

Anne

Hi John 52

Thank you for your information but I was on that number for well over 30 mins yesterday, when I eventually gave up.   I am in Spain therefore an 0800 number is not a free call for me.   thankfully I am on a low charge calling system.  I am presently holding on but I cannot be on the phone ALL day.  The whole thing is absolutely disgraceful but sadly it is the times we are living in... only to get worse.    I do believe that being in Spain I am not allowed to receive a weekly pension.   Thank you for your help.  I shall let you know when I have some satisfaction, which shall be a great relief.

Hi Ann,

that is amazing, as my translator had thought that might be the case, and we do know that post here does go awry.  Trouble is, I'm having such a problem getting through.  I started early in the morning but I gather they have changed their opening times!!!!! so I am trying now at possibly the worst time of day, being 11.50am AND a Friday.   Perhaps better luck next week... but then it is a holiday, I believe!!!   The frustration of it all.

Thanks for helping.  it is appreciated by me.

I hope you manage to get through. Just another tip I’m sure they told her that they would write approximately every 2 years to confirm that she is still alive, maybe when you do eventually get through you can clarify this for your own peace of mind.

Hi I’ve just done an experiment like John 52, I’m in the U.K. and have phoned the International pensions number 0191 218 7777 after the usual Covid announcement I notice option 1 is for Life Certificates if you haven’t already tried this number it may be an option. Good luck

Well.. I can that a try as the International Number is not answering.   I shall put a letter in the post next week... as I can't think of anything else.   I did speak to the "England" office but says she cannot deal with my case as I live in Spain.  What a shame.

Thanks,
