Have you spoken to the British Embassy in Madrid? Their number is 0034 917 146 300. Perhaps they will clarify if your reasons are sufficient to enter Spain.

I was trying to get back to spain to pick my partner up earlier this year. I initially tried the British embassy in Madrid, but not very helpful. I then tried to British embassy in Alicante and they were brilliant. They managed to get my travel authority done and I managed to get back to Torrevieja to collect her. We're now back in the UK. Unfortunately, I haven't got the number for the British consulate in Alicante. I first had to send a email stating the reason why I had to travel, and I then had phone calls from them, keeping upto date with the process.

The Spanish Government do not make it clear that this is an essential reason to travel from UK yo buy, sell houses. We have been advised not to chance it as will be open the interpretation by border control officers.Very expensive Covid tests required as well. Our estate agent has said getting a let...

...ter from the Notary should be enough but we do not think do.Our sale is set to complete on 16 June but we may have delay until we can travel. We will not complete sell unless we are there. No chance to view any houses yet and only do much you can decide digitally. Spain is a mess with 17 Autonomous Regions with their own rules as Central Gov  Sanchez have devolved responsibility. From anything goes in Madrid to not leaving or entering regions, curfews etc?!Their rules could change overnight.Just hope the Tourism lobby push hard enough there i to get us back.Good luck with getting to you new apartment. We will see what Boris says tomorrow re yet more new rules for International travel??!

We sold our property at the beginning of January. All papers have been signed and completed, however we are waiting for the notary to finalise everything. We were initially told that it would be completed by the 30th March. On the 29th the solicitor contacted us to say that it could be another 2 or 3 month's for the notary to complete everything. We ended up giving the solicitor power of attorney to finalise everything, because we were due to travel back to the UK on the 31 March.

I hope that you manage to get everything sorted.

I have English neighbours in Spain who vehemently supported Brexit and flew the  Union flag from their property. I honestly don’t get it.

Wow, land of hope and glory eh! They voted to leave on now proven lies. Well will see how things go clearly not good at the moment, Boris and his Brexiteers call it teething problems. You try and tell that to the fishermen in Devon where we live who cannot get their catches to the European markets due to the piles of forms, inspections and masses of red tape or to the people and businesses of Northern Ireland who are having to deal with a border in the Irish sea. When this pandemic is over Brexit issues will really come to the fore and hopefully Johnson and co will be held to account.

Hello Steve,

Oh what a pain for you all. We signed the purchase agreement on 3 March 21 with a 16 June date so going on your experience looks like we could be delayed as well. Our French buyers are in lockdown at present and cannot leave their town even. There is a clause  about delays due to Covid re Notary so may help us view and find our new house once we can actually travel to Spain again? Have a booked ferry in October with Brittany Ferries, flexi ticket, forth change losing count! Good luck with yours as well.

Hi Scott.

Hopefully you will hear soon from the notary and be able to move forward. We're only waiting for the notary to finalise everything and we'll get our money. We're not buying another property as we have found the politics in Spain to be a nightmare where buying a selling property is concerned. Its cost us to much money over the last 12 years. In future, we'll just rent somewhere for 2 / 3 months. Nothing to worry about then.

Good luck in finding another property.

Thanks Steve,

Well we are looking at other property but really still discussing our future in Spain. We are so tired of waiting to get back and now have a threat of a massive solar  farm being built in our campo which will surround our Urbo in Castalla, total nightmare.Check out the Forum Castalla website.Think your idea of renting as and when a safe option as the world and Europe,Spain had changed with Brexit and the Covid pandemic.Good luck.

Saludos

Scott

Thank you Scott. The reason why we've decided not to buy again is, when we bought our villa in El Chaparell the solicitor didn't inform us that the kitchen extension hadn't been put onto the deeds, neither was the swimming pool. We've had to pay for a architect to come and draw up plan's. You have to arrange and pay for someone to keep coming in to maintain the pool. Having a bank account costs you money. Then there's the suma. I can go on but. All in all, we're convinced that renting is far cheaper and the best option.

Take care.

Has anyone heard of, or had personal experience  of, border checks at Alicante Airport on arrival from UK?

What were those checks and, worse still, has anyone been heavily fined and/or turned back?

How, or will, those rejected be able to return to UK on the plane on which they arrived ?
