Spain to lift restrictions for UK travellers from Monday 24 May 2021

Great News for all the British 2nd homeowners at last.Lets all try and enjoythe summer As a bonus on Saturday evening the Eurovision Song Contest is coming from the beautiful eclectic city of Rotterdam. All of the real Europe together again.

So far, the only advantage for we Brits going to Spain is possibly not requiring to take a PCR test before travelling. IF we are allowed past the Spanish entry control posts we would still need to pay for another PCR before travelling back to the UK, then another 2 PCRs during our “isolation” period after arrival home. Add in airport chaos and queue time in both directions, then ask ourselves if it is worth all the worry, plus the hassle, and the extra costs.

We are going to sit it out until the UK government tells the PCR providers that they have had their day, and we can go back to something that resembles freedom to travel again.

Cynical dilemma? I’m due to fly to Alicante in a week , to spend a week on my own, in my house in a town in the Valencian Community where I’m unlikely to have no contact with anyone except the cashier in the supermarket. Government advice is I should not be going even though the Case rate per 100000 is 24 in Valenciano province and 2 in the town where my house.

Instead there is government encouragement for staycations in places like Blackpool 42.5 cases per 100000, and Margate 30.3 per 100000. There is no compulsion to wear masks in public in these places, you don’t need to be tested to enter or leave these seaside towns and they are heaving with crowds.

Now let me think, Mr. Spock,  what is your logical advice? Beam me up ffs.

Sounds like you are in a  situation very like ours. We also had bought flights many moons ago, for a future date by when we hoped forlornly, that our government might have worked out that Spain and the UK need each other’s business and employment opps. That far off date is like yours, now next week. We too are virtually self isolated when in Santa Pola, only going to the supermarket 50 metres across the road, every other day, and at times when we can see that it is almost free of customers. We are not barflies and only visit a restaurant once a week, again when we know from experience, we probably will have the place to ourselves.

Overall, we stand less chance of getting infected in Spain than we do here in Musselburgh.

We have decided to accept the high chance of not getting our RYR flights changed, because we can’t be sure of when, if ever, there will be a better time to go.

So like you, we have to go on paying our Spanish water and electricity charges, plus our local council taxes, plus our government imputed income tax for a house we haven’t seen for the past 8 months.

We hope there will come a time in our lives remaining, when we can enjoy our other lives, in Spain, without those nasty PCR tests. The same for yourself, Dave.

Somebody heard what you hoped for me! 

I got my RYR flights changed  almost FOC today, for August/September, so here's hoping that the pesky PCRs have been replaced by then with the up & coming saliva tests which are a lot less unpleasant, they only involve spitting into a beaker! 

Might even be a bit cheaper too, as they give a rapid colour change, for positive.

Have you decided to come over next week then?

Yes we’ll arrive Sunday night. Already wasted money on two PCR tests we ordered in advance and no longer need. No doubt when we return on June 7th Spain will be added to green list and we’ll have wasted more money on tests for return. Licence to print money. Doesn’t seem to matter a jot that we’ve both had both our vaccs.

I see what you mean, your Spanish bolthole looks even safer than ours, tucked away in a lovely part of the countryside. 

We too are annoyed by the  greed and avarice that emerges at every opportunity, I wouldn’t be surprised if even top tier politicians eventually succumb to temptation !

Anyway we just have to endure it, and keep the blood pressure down.

I suspect, and hope that given time, the current testing regime will become more practical and realistic,and less expensive!

Hi,

It may have already been answered elswhere; but where can we get pcr tests in & around Campoverde and how much are they? Do they have to be prebooked?

The only other variable I can think of before we come out (at last) is ..... IF they remove all restrictions on 21st June, does that mean no more testing on return to UK? anyone got any info/insight on this?
