That's not technically correct Pacoboy.
As a Spanish resident you can bring your UK registered car to Spain and you can continue to drive it. You have a 6 month time limit before you need to "import" your vehicle by changing the registration from DVLA UK to DGT Spanish plates. You do however need to advise DVLA that the vehicle has been moved permanently out of the UK.
A main vehicle is a personal possession and permitted to be brought with you when you move permanently to Spain.

Oh ok, he told me it would cost 50 Euros to do the MOT but as I’m insured in the Uk
And it’s taxed in the Uk I did wonder how I can notify the DVLA that I had got it

MOTD in Spain because your insurance and tax is invalid if you don’t have an Mot ?
So I will find out when I get back in May what the outcome will be ?
You can get illegal mot in spain 50 but they are illegal

I have seen 6 months listed often in older threads on this subject by people who I would describe as very reliable sources.
As you have TIE you should make the swap soon anyway.

Saying that, I have neighbour who has been parking her British reg vehicle opposite the home of a local police officer for 5 years!

😆 does she take it back to the uk every year for it’s mot? Or is illegally dumped, mind it can’t be as anyone can check on the DVLA web site if the car has a current mot.
We were told that after June the police are going to stop loads of uk reg cars and will be checking passports and license residents must have a Spanish license and it would be illegal to have the uk car on Spanish roads with a Spanish license hence the passport check to see how long you have been out of the uk if you still have a uk license.
if you have all what you say you can regester your car over to spanish number plates its the law any way

I believe the limit is 6 months if you are resident in Spain.
You should exchange your license for a Spanish version and consider importing your car if you intend to stay in Spain.
If your car is of a type homologated for Spain it is fairly straight forward to import your vehicle. But is it worth it? The price of spare parts for Britsh manufacture vehicles will probably rise in the future at Brexit bites.
Insurance in the EU is automatically with a Green Card so it mat be worth considering buying a car locally and selling your Britsh registered vehicle, especially if you intend to live long term in Spain.
Please note the regulations regarding foreign registered vehicles may have changed post Brexit.

That made me smile Trotter. It happens so many times. The ones I find even more frustrating are the posters who “lob a grenade”, get members fighting on a heap, never to be seen on that topic again!
And we fall for it every time 😄😄🤪🥂
There’s a dearth of please and thank you too!
I'm heading back to England in August and was hoping to pick up a bargain to drive back in but reading about dodgy MOTs has made me think flying is the better option and getting a cheap runaround when I get back.
