Sorry Paul. Not sure how I could have been wrong two months ago when I was actually asking for clarification, but that’s ok

So, again, for my clarification.

You have a U.K. registered car, presumably on U.K. plates?

You live in Spain and it’s insured in Spain. Again I’d understood driving a car, in Spain, on U.K. plates was time limited before legally, it had to be re registered?

Are you therefore saying that, legally, an insured U.K. registered car, can be ITV’d? 🤪🥂

No, I’m not missing the point. I asked you to clarify the point, possibly because I might disagree with “your point”. I asked a couple of pertinent questions which you appear reluctant to answer.

So, you drive your U.K. registered car back to the U.K. for its MOT each year? 🤪🥂

I've heard and read conflicting info, one suggests 6 months and another that the car must be legal in the UK which would obviously mean taking it back when it's MOT is due. I took mine back last year and sold it because I've read on here about cars being impounded.

The other Paul

Thank you. You have, I believe, answered my questions. Not sure where I stated “nots” were not valid for a year. I asked if you drove (or returned) your U.K. registered car back each year for its MOT. 🤪🥂

It was low mileage (37,000miles) keeping it would have meant driving back every year for an MOT and the thought of it being impounded led to me bottling it.

This article is quite informative and mentions cars being impounded, I know one or two people who have had their UK cars here for well over a year but I just don't get away with things.

Here's a link to another forum about the cost of reregistering, apparently a ball park figure is around 1000 euros.

Paul,

If you are non-resident, you can bring your car into Spain all year round, within the legally allowed limits for visits. You must have the correct MOT Certificate,Tax, and Insurance.

If you intend being a resident, you must register your car within 30 days

Make no mistake, if you’re pulled by the police, they’re going to want to see either your residencia/TIE or your passport, both of which will evidence your status. Good luck with that!

Much better to be legal. The member who appears to be giving “sound advice” and denigrating the advice of others as not being accurate, , including “why didn’t you just re register the car on Spanish plates” and was himself only a few months ago asking how to re register his car, obviously couldn’t be arsed 🤪🥂

Dear Landsmen,

Why can’t some of you accept that you cannot drive your UK registered vehicle on a UK license in Spain forever as a “right, because I’m British.”

Failure to exchange your UK license for a Spanish one within the stipulated time can result in being fined for driving without a valid license. Failure to import your vehicle within the stipulated time can result in the vehicle being impounded for Spanish car tax evasion.

Likewise, without a valid UK MOT your UK insurance may be invalid.

If you want to live here in Spain, live here. If you can’t accept the laws and regulations of the land, then go back to the UK.

Its not overly difficult to import a vehicle in Spain or to exchange your license.

Time consuming yes, but necessary.

Brexit was the reason for having to sit a Driving Test after 30th June 2021. Blame Boris and those who voted to leave the EU.

Really? You the same person who posted on May 23 2021

“....are at our wits-end!!. We really don’t want to resort to living here illegally”

You previously state, in September 2020, that you were “finally here in Torrevieja with my family permanently”

September 2020 to May 2021. That wasn’t illegal then?

11 days later, you appear to have residencia. Wow, well done! Considering all the assistance you’ve asked of members, I would have thought you couldn’t wait to share that with the forum.

I personally couldn’t care less that you live/lived here illegally, or been driving your car in a less that legally permissible manner. What I’d do care about, enough to challenge you, is that you appear to be encouraging others to do the same

Others on the forum don’t know what they’re talking about??? I’d listen to them all day long 🤪🥂

Road Tax is the problem. You are not paying Spainish Road Tax, hence after the stiplated time the law states for importing your vehicle you are guilty of Tax evasion
