Internet Scams Including DGT
We've discussed, several times, scam emails asking for traffic fines and other things. The DGT often posts that they do not contact offenders by phone or email but people still get taken in by them.
In the local press today, Torrevieja Guardia Civil has stated they have arrested 14 people in Torrevieja for sending out thousands of scam emails impersonating banks, DGT and other organisations. They warn of never answering any of these emails without carrying out checks on them first. The frauds have involved people throughout Spain and other countries and the amount taken in has been over €200,000 but investigations are still being carried out and they say that more will be uncovered.
They operated from the Vega Baja area but mainly centred on Torrevieja where they seized large quantities of technical equipment.
Be careful out there and the police warn that fake websites and pages were set up with similar names to the real ones including the booking system for ITV checks where people have been charged for booking an appointment and they say to only use the official sites and check on any emails or messages you may have received.
