Hi, I am looking to buy a pool cleaner and have been recommended the Zodiac MX9. Does anyone have one and what is your opinion of it please?

All I can say is that everyone I know who has bought an automatic pool cleaner has ended up abandoning its use.

I'm not familiar with this model.

But I think it works by connecting the "hoover hose" and running the pool pump.

There are automaton versions that use very little power, and don't need to use pool pump. You can leave them alone to do their thing, and they clean the sides of the pool as well as the floor.

Example ... Maytronics Dolphin or Triton - but they are more expensive. I have a friend with one of these and he is very impressed with it

Hi Judy,

My brother-in-law has the Zodiac and, yes, it does work off the pool pump and cleans the walls as well as the base.  He's delighted with the results and we're planning to buy one as well.  I don't know the model my sister-in-law has, but hers doesn't use the pool pump and she's not happy with it because, whilst it does a good job on the walls, it doesn't pick up the fine grain dust from the bottom of the pool.

Kind regards,

Kim

In view of the favourable reports by Kelvin and Kim, I'd better report that the three people I know who binned their pool cleaners all had the type that connects to the vacuum outlet and required the pump running for a lot longer than it would normally, and their machines didn't clean the walls.

These cleaners normally come with 2 sets of filters ... coarse and fine.

Coarse gets leaves, pine needles etc. The fine gets the sand.

I have a vested interest. My friend with the automaton machine sold it to me and bought a flashier one. I have yet to use it, but I saw how well it worked in his pool.

One thing I forgot to mention is that my sister-in-law's machine cost €1,100 from Leroy Merlin, but the Zodiac was less than half that price.

I also think I should have made MY position clearer - it's hubby who wants to buy the Zodiac.  Personally, I don't think we need to buy one at all - he does a perfectly acceptable job as far as I'm concerned! 😉😄

Best wishes,

Kim
