Can anybody tell me if there is a definitive guide to when face mask wearing is mandatory in this region.  At present, wherever we walk outside, it seems a 50/50 split and we do not want to risk a fine!

You may find a definitive guide if you search long enough. The laws for wearing face masks changed a week or so ago that you are required to wear masks at all times when outside. You are required to wear masks when entering shops, bars, restaurants and Farmacia. You can remove your mask once you are seated in a bar or restaurant but any movement away from your seat will require you to wear masks.

You are also required to show your covid QR code and photo ID to enter bars and restaurants.

Where I live it's the same situation as to how many people are actually wearing a mask outside, it's about 50/50 here too.

It's your choice as to whether you wear masks but if you get caught by the police and fined then that's the chance for you to take.

Hi DAF78,

Under the new legislation, you must wear a face mask outdoors even if social distancing of 1.5 metres between people can be maintained - it's mandatory “in any outdoor space for public use or that is open to the public,” so on the street, in parks and, as a general rule, in any open space.  There are two exceptions: face masks are not required outdoors “during individual sports” (for example, going for a jog or a cycle on your own), or “during activities that are not sporting in nature, but are carried out in natural spaces”, such as at the beach or hiking in the forest - but these exceptions still require that the 1.5 metre social distancing rule be maintained.  The face mask can also be removed outdoors in Spain by those travelling by boat; however, the new rules make masks mandatory below deck, even if social distancing can be maintained.

Face masks are not mandatory inside private residences, care homes, centres for people with disabilities, or similar homes, provided that the vaccination rate is 80 percent or higher with the full schedule and booster doses.  However, visitors and workers at these centers are still required to wear face masks.

Of course, you must still wear a face mask in indoor spaces, such as shops and other indoor public spaces, as well as public transport, and if you’re in a car with people from other households, all passengers are expected to wear a mask.

Children under six years old and those who are not capable of removing a face mask for themselves are exempt from wearing them.

According to Spanish law, failure to wear a face mask in public spaces, including outside on the street, will be considered a minor offence and is punishable with a fine of up to €100.

But I think the simplest explanation is how the Minister for Health, Carolina Darias, described it: “Every time we go out, we have to leave with our mask on."

I have to say that I'm very impressed with people in Guardamar - every time we've taken our woof for a walk through the park and along the beach promenade, I'd say at least 80% of people are abiding by the new rules.  There was one notable exception one day: a family of 4 coming towards us, mum, dad, son and daughter, not a mask in sight - but given they were all at least 6 feet tall and fair skinned, I think they were probably northern Europeans on holiday and didn´t have a clue about the rules.

Kind regards,

Kim

An old topic but reinstated. As from today it is mandatory to wear facemasks in medical centres and hospitals due to the increase in respiratory diseases in the region.

Hi Marcliff,

I was reading stats last week that showed, in the Comunidad Valenciana region alone, the increase in respiratory viruses, between the week before Christmas and Christmas week, were:

Covid   83%

Flu   137%

RSV   25%

Attributed, primarily, to the drop in temperatures and increased social mixing.

As this topic is more than 2 years old, may I suggest you post a new thread, along with a link to the official statement, so that all current members will have the opportunity to see it.

Thanks and regards,

Kim
