Hi

I got my SIP card in February and presented it at Quasada pharmacy on Friday to be told it wasn’t registered or had expired or some other reason. The card suggests it’s valid until 8/20. Do I have to register it somewhere?
When I got it at town hall the agent was very helpful but didn’t mention any registration requirements

Can anyone help please?

Have you got your Residencia and are you in receipt of a UK pension?

I''m sorry to have to tell you that you have no right to a SIP card. A temporary SIP card is often issued as part of the Residency process or as a convenience for your local Centro de Salud for treatment that is your right under the EHIC but it in no way infers the right to continued free Spanish healthcare.
Someone else said recently that SIP card administration had been centralised recently so maybe they are working through all those who have been given SIP cards who are not actually entitled to them:
Until the end of the year you will still be entitled to treatment under the EHIC but after that, unless separate agreements are made, you will have to rely on travel insurance.

The 6 month validity of your SIP card is evidence that it was issued as Cheryl has said. You should be able to buy what you need at the phamacy and possibly claim it back from your travel insurance although in my experience that only really works if you've got it by prescription.

There is something else though, looking back at your previous posts it would appear that you've been here since late January in which case you should have applied for residencia and since you have not, or at least have not said you are, you are therefore here illegally.

The fact that the lockdown means applications are suspended is immaterial, the correct course of action in the circumstance is to return to your place of residence - which I believe is UK and there is no ban on travel for that purpose - then return when travel is once again permitted, if you were planning to apply for residence then choosing to remain illegally could compromise that and if you stayed until the end of July then by default you would become tax resident.

I’ve been back in UK returned to Spain just before lockdown. 4 flights back to UK cancelled so far....guess it’s just wait and see, fortunately I’m healthy
