Why trusting the doctor is essential for health

Medical professionals are indispensable figures in society, as they improve people’s quality of life. They do not only treat illnesses, but also listen to their patients, accompany them, and provide support throughout all stages of their lives.

In their practice, in addition to instruments such as the stethoscope, doctors use tools such as empathy, humane treatment, and effective communication. All of these are fundamental when it comes to understanding the patient’s lifestyle and concerns.

What are the benefits of having a trusted doctor?

  • Better diagnoses. If the professional pays close attention to the symptoms and is familiar with the medical history, they will be able to identify patterns more easily and reach more accurate diagnoses, achieving greater speed and efficiency in treatment.

  • Greater clarity. The doctor will explain the diagnosis in a simple and empathetic manner and will resolve any doubts so that the patient fully understands their case and knows how to act. This provides greater reassurance and encourages a positive attitude.

  • Prevention. By knowing the patient better, the doctor will be able to anticipate risks and give personalised advice on nutrition, physical activity, and rest, taking into account individual medical conditions.

  • A space of trust. A good professional will provide the freedom to share symptoms and concerns in a confidential environment, bringing reassurance in moments of uncertainty.

For all these reasons, it is essential that doctors, in addition to being qualified, are empathetic and treat their patients with humanity. In this way they will be able to provide the necessary care and convey reassurance in the most delicate moments.

At ASSSA, a health insurance company, there is a wide medical directory with trusted professionals and centres who genuinely care about the health of policyholders. In addition, to ensure high-quality healthcare, they offer direct access to numerous specialists and the option of a second medical opinion, as well as many multilingual centres with translation services and international hospitals.

The doctor–patient relationship is a fundamental pillar of wellbeing. For this reason, having ASSSA health insurance will allow you to enjoy care that is close, professional, and human in its approach.

Thank you for sharing this information.  Room for improvement:  many doctors only speak Spanish.

Yes I'm afraid that in Spain doctors do tend to speak Spanish. Learn the language or maybe take an interpreter - in some health centres they actually tell people to bring an interpreter if they didn't speak Spanish. If you are Spanish or French or Chinese, there would be no question of you walking into a UK surgery and expecting a doctor to converse in your language. Quite disgracefully there are British people who have lived in Spain for twenty years who speak not a word of Spanish. Many communities including Torrevieja actually provide language classes for foreigners. Sadly there tends to be a siege mentality amongst the ex pat community treating Spain as though it were a colony of the long dead British empire. In fairness it would be true to say I think that Spanish commercial interests pander to this and that does not help.

Hi Jack E.  For good measure I had a Spanish interpreter / translator with me and we all had Google translation on our phones, including the Spanish doctor.  Spanish doctor only spoke in one type of complicated turbo speed Spanish.  He was in a rush to take his siesta lunch....

Indeed, turbo charged Spanish sometimes can be an issue even where like me you understand and speak a reasonable amount of Spanish. It is true to say I think that South American and northern Spanish speakers are easier to understand. In Mediterranean Spain you are encountering the equivalent of Geordie or Glaswegian English at times, and I even had a public official being deliberately obtuse,  start talking Catalan at me, So sometimes even when speaking your best Castilian Spanish, you won't necessarily get it back 🤣🤣
