Hi there!

I recently moved here (living with my small family in Quesada). I was living in Ireland and Denmark before (originally from Poland but unfortunately not a plumber :D ). Now I'm trying to find my way to get some job/jobs here in Spain. I've spent the last few years learning web development (and my background in that area covers 10 years working here and there with different projects). I can build almost any type of a website from small one-page 'vcards' to e-commerce, membership sites or booking systems (I can show a few last projects to potential employers). I have also a fresh Google Ads certificate and I'm constantly trying to be up-to-date with web technologies.

Is there anyone from web development niche? I will be thankful for any advice. Should I try to join some local web agency or it's better to work as an autonomo? The beginning is not always simple :) Like I said I don't have any contacts here yet, so if you know about someone who needs web developer, please remember that I'm here :)

I used to offer website design/ development as a local small business service. Stopped completely 5 years ago. Theres no profit. Most of the web design agencies are one man companies or computer shops. Each of them drove the prices too low. Small business clients mostly buy on price the lower the better. When I receive an enquiry asking “How much for” usually the client has no budget or business plan on the return they want from a website.

Autónomos not an option if you want to eat food. 300€ for social security. Add another 300€ for expenses, tax etc. Start adding living costs. You need about 1,500€ per month turnover. I think a small estate agent will pay 1,000 - 1,500€ for a property website. Theres plenty of people ready to under cut that price. The demands not there for 12 estate agents websites per year. Start chipping into the market where people offer 5 page websites for 100€ and logos for 10€. Eating food becomes a distant memory.

My backgrounds Adobe software localisation. A decent skill-set is always in demand. If you are sitting about doing nothing, have a look at what skills are in demand from design agencies, Start-up companies. Learn the skills that are are in demand.

Alicante City is set to become a new digital hub in Europe. The Digital District is looking at 120 start-up new media companies in the next 18 months. Those companies will require skills with Photoshop, Indesign, Animate, front and back end website development. Programmers, marketing people and the support services. Match your skill-set to what the new business require and you are in demand The bonus ball for working for a new media company is English is the common language of the design industry.

I am looking for someone who has good all round Word Press and PHP skills. I run three different web sites and I would like to have someone in the back ground who I can call on from time to time to maintain and update my web sites. I know this is not a full time job by any means but it may lead to other work and other opportunities. Do you have the skills and would you be interested. Regards, Lester
