Hi Emma,

The figures are calculated as a multiple of IPREM.  For 2021, the figure is 400% of €564.90, so that is:

-  Annual income of €27,115.20 for the first applicant, and

- Annual income of €6,778.80 for each family member.

Therefore, the total for a married couple would be €33,894.00.

Spain’s IPREM typically increases each year, so the figure could be higher than this when your brother applies in the future.

Kind regards,
Kim

What about the other 4 yrs to get your residency or do you just need that amount in each year for the 5 yrs

Hi Emma,

You need that amount for each of the first 5 years.  The first visa is for one year, the second and third visas last 2 years each, making 5 years in total.

Kind regards,

Kim

Hi,

We have had a place in La Marina for the last 2.5 years and ultimately want to retire to Spain.

Just a couple of questions if that's OK 😁

How do you need to prove money coming in, for example could you have say €3000 a month being paid into an account on say the 28th of every month and through out the month be drawing much of it back out so the account shows €36000 a year going in?

Or is it that the authorities just look at the past 3 months bank statements at the point of application so €3000 a month for 3 months would perhaps cover it.

The second question is regarding working in the UK and "living" in Spain. With our job we live on site in the UK where we work and eventually could reduce our work to 6 months a year, could we work in the UK for those six months, be Spanish residents and pay tax in Spain?

Sorry for the convoluted questions, I'm just looking for ways aroind the problem

Many thanks

Eddie

Kim thanks for your reply ,so I understand now you need that amount each year for the 5 years ,does all the amount add up each year need to be left in the bank so by the 5 th year there will still be over £175,000 in or can you use some of the first years money to live on if you know what I mean

Hi Emma,

No, you're allowed to spend it 😉  You just have to ensure you can prove the relevant amount at each visa application.

Kind regards,

Kim

I see your general questions have been answered but I wasn’t sure if you are aware but under the NLV rules, in the first 5 years you can only be out of Spain for 10 months in total across all 5 years! Obviously once you have completed the 5 years and your residency status becomes permanent it will revert to standard rules. Just mentioning this as it came as a surprise to me!
