I am looking for some knowledgeable advice about obtaining the above. I have an apartment in Rojales and now want to move permanently. Does anyone feel that they can offer me some help. Thank you

Quite a lot more information is required, the main one being are you a EU passport holder or not? The systems for obtaining residency are totally different depending on your answer. How long do you want to stay for is another? You head the post temporary and then say you want to move permanently is another point for clarification.

You'll get loads of helpful advice on here but those replying do need some sort of base to start from.

Thank you for your reply. I hold a British passport which expires in 2034.

I own an apartment in Rojales but can only stay under the 90/180 day ruling.

Are you of pensionable age Stuart?

If so, You will need to apply for a non lucrative visa from the nearest Spanish consulate in the uk and be able to prove the required annual income of 28,800 euros (plus 7,500 euros for any additional person), you need to apply for your S1 forms from the overseas healthcare team in Newcastle to be able to get free healthcare.

As Tebo53 says, this must be applied for in UK from a Spanish consulate. BLS Spain is responsible for processing visas from UK and their website will tell you everything you need and which consulate in UK will handle your application depending on where you live

Points to note are that you apply for a non lucrative visa which means you can't take up employment, prove you meet the financial, medical and criminal free background criteria .and, once that's done, you are granted a visa to come to Spain and apply for residency. You will be given temporary residency for the first 5 years and, one you have been a resident for those 5 years, you will be granted permanent residency.

Also note you cannot be absent from Spain for more than 10 months in those first 5 years to show your commitment to being a resident and your passport will be continued to be checked in those 5 years to ensure you don't exceed the time away which is also limited to a maximum of 6 months in any one year bearing in mind the 10 months maximum throughout.

One other thing is that when you get the visa, you now have a whole year in which to go to Spain to apply for residency in the province you are going to live in. In your case that would be Alicante. However, if you have a visa the next time you arrive in Spain you have just 30 days in which to apply for that residency and the clocks starts counting down on the day of your arrival and the 5 years temporary residency starts from when residency is granted.

Contact Anne at Sun Lawyers in Cabo Roig. We did what you're wanting to do, and she was brilliant. You'll get some free start off info, then she'll tell you the cost ab and take you through it one step at a time. Good luck, worth it in the end. Dave(Formentera del Segura)
