I have my eye on a property in oasis for sale which is 280M2 and sits in 2000M2 and I wonder if anyone can tell me what the actuall build allowance is here. Could I build another similar sized house or extend the original.

The best way of finding the correct answer is to go to the local Ajuntamiento and make enquiries from the Town Architect. There are different regulations depending upon the classification of the site, ie: rural/ urban/protected etc and local areas have different priorities and policies.

Stephannie's is good, succinct advice. I suggest you make an appointment with the architect first by  phoning the 'Departamento de Urbanizacion'. It might help if you have 'el numero catastral' at the time of the call so that they can retrieve information pertaining to your property in time for the interview. If not having it for the day of the interview may suffice.

You realy need a copy of the deeds (escatura) as conditions may apply!  An architect could then tell you what you can and can do this is usually free advice
