Hi, we are coming out on Friday for a short holiday. We have stayed this side of Torrevieja! So it will all be new to us. Can someone let me know where the tobacco shop is in San Fulgencio please? Also can someone  please give me some idea of how Fulgencio is pronounced? I don't want to make a complete prat of myself when asked where we are staying. Thanks in advance  Jennie

There is a Tabac at the airport on the ground floor of the multi storey car park where you will probably have to go anyway if you are collecting a hire car. As you exit the terminal building on the ground floor, walk across the coach park and the Tabac is to the right of the entrance to the car park or you can use the bridge to the car park from the terminal and go down in the lift. Same prices as everywhere else.

There is a tobacco shop in San Fulgencio. If you walk past the police station, turn right and its 200 meters on your left hand side.

Thanks Kim, I will follow the instructions! Very much appreciated, and also for the helpful pronunciation. I wasn't saying it right at all!

Thanks very much for the map! That really helps sort things out! Was it a google map? If it is then I can use my phone to get there! Jennie

Hi Kimmy,

Brave attempt at pronouncing Full-hen-thee-o, one of the best I've seen and compliments all of your previous, well thought out, helpful and informative replies to this forum.

As my name suggests I am from Scotland, I was going to ultra pernickety, however you made an excellent recovery when you mentioned that Liverpudlians, some Welsh and Scottish people can pronounce it like the native Spaniards. Other local examples are: Benijofar and Rojales.

Have a great day and keep up the excellent work.

Hi Mick,

Almost, but it's San Full-hen-thee-oh.

In Spanish, when a 'g' is followed by an 'e' or an 'i',  it becomes 'soft' and is pronounced as an 'h' (it's actually a more guttural sound, but the English have trouble producing that sound).  The 'see'  syllable you suggest is pronounced as 'thee' like a lisp.

That said, there are so many English living on La Marina urb, I'm sure the Spanish are used to hearing it mispronounced and have worked out the translation 👍😄

Kind regards,

Kim
