Hi all, this is a first for me, but I feel the need to vent. Yesterday the police came to the square in San Luis and stopped the local community from having an enjoyable afternoon. WHY?????. Who were we annoying,? Who was getting upset? Who was being harmed? ????? They arrived with the biuelight flashing, so the musicians stopped playing and everyone sat down and waited. After a few moments, the male policeman got out of the car and lit a cigarette. Five more moments followed and his female colleague got out of the car and went and spoke to Natalia in the Luz de Luna. Outcome, stop you are not allowed to enjoy yourselves because you do not have a music license (unobtainable). So, we’ll over 3 hundred people were having a great afternoon, the local bars were busy, as were the two local restaurants. They pay there taxes, which is a win, win. We donate non perishable foods to local food banks. The community comes together, musicians from in and around the area provide their time a skill free of charge. So I’m wondering Mr Mayor and Mr Chief of Police, we’re is the problem? If there is a solution to this problem, please provide an answer. Remember, life is too short to be a for having fun, get a life. Yes I have rambled on a bit, but at least I’ve put it out there. Any comments are welcome. Enjoy your day, Rant over 🤪
"because you do not have a music license (unobtainable)"
So you're saying a licence was applied for but refused but the organisers chose to hold the event regardless?
If that's the case your beef is with them not the police.
Hello
Music licences are required and also denied for a reason &-without one any complaints from anyone in the area have to be dealt with.
Obviously, the venue should not have let it go ahead....doesn't seem that difficult to understand to me.

I’m a musician and have played at the Jam in San Luis many times, unfortunately from experience as a musician you are treated like a criminal for playing music, The jam was stopped previously at the beginning of the year and one of the band musicians was told by one of the rather aggressive policia team, You people think you can do whatever you want ! You’ve got 30 minutes to leave !! Sadly Spain is still under police rule, there is no logic to the way the police behave towards music especially when there’s never a problem with Spanish fiesta events pumping loud music out till 6am ! The licenses are usually obtained by a brown envelope offered in the right direction ! I find it rather disturbing that the local police will put their efforts into hassling people having a good time and bringing money into the community, while there are numerous bag thefts leaving people robbed and extremely distressed !
Bottom line is, if you’re passionate about being a music performer, don’t move to Spain !

The solution would have been for each of the 300 people there to give 1 euro each and the police would've left....or since there's only 2 of them and they're only local tell them where to go, what they going to do to 300 people?

“tell them where to go, what they going to do to 300 people?” -
- that would certainly light the blue touch paper! I would hazard a guess that reinforcements would be called and mass arrests for breach of the peace, amongst other offences, would arise

Hi
I've seen this happen so many times over the years, in various bars around Orihuela Costa.
Re 300 people - it's the bar owner, not the 300, who will be subject to a heavy fine if the "noise" continues.
I've always been confused about the "music license" - I've even heard it said that they don't actually exist, you just have to show that you've applied for one!
When the police arrive, it's because someone has complained. The usual "culprits" are other local bars who claim they're not getting any business because of the noise, or else local Spanish busy having their Siesta (I'm assuming the jam in San Luis is in the afternoon).
The musicians themselves are very aware of the situation - they'll often stop playing at the sight of a police car!
It's almost always outdoor venues that have this problem, especially if they have live drums as opposed to backing tracks. It's easy to turn the volume down on a backing track!
Cheers

If its polica local I doubt they will have 300 reinforcements in San Luis. I have said it to them and nothing happened because they were in wrong trying trying to enforce their made up law, long story shortened as to why I shouted at them....I had the first generation of electric scooters and they said I wasn't allowed to be where I was, I was right outside the excursion shop that rents them out, other groups of people were coming past them but I was alone and one guy stopped me, I explained to him I am allowed here and he tried to fine me, I went ballistic and he soon realised I knew his corrupted colleagues very well and that I wasn't a tourist his other colleague came over and said "no no he alright him leave him alone" I told him where to go and left. Sometimes you have to stand up to them. I always say treat them with respect first, let them have their little moment of power and it's far quicker and easier but it if the locals try enforce bullshit fines for things that everyone else also does then tell them straight
Hello
A bar at the back of my Urb. used to have a music licence.....the music was nice & varied every night. However, the venue abused the terms of the licence by allowing music to be played much too loud & much too late.
Eventually it was 2 spanish families who reported this to the local police & after gathering evidence, the license was removed & fines issued ( I, for one was very grateful) - a new licence has never been issued & most of the customers moved on.
Cheers
