The only concern I would raise about San Luis is flash flooding but this will not apply to every property in every street, or even just limited  to San Luis but the CV 905 floods whenever there is very heavy rain, usually in Spring and Autumn, and this affects the surrounding areas where the water cascades down to the lakes.
At the moment people are getting bitten alive by the mozzies following the horrendous Gota Fría but this is not limited to San Luis either.

From what I've seen when visiting the area I hear a lot of Brits and many other nationalities and it seems to have a nice community feeling there with lots of facilities including a bus service.

It's a pretty decent area to settle in, with a range of house types from large villas, to apartments to 1 or 2 bedroom bungalows. Also, It's not built up like other areas and very few high rises to block the view or the sun.   As such, it attracts many northern Europeans and a fair amount of Spaish residents too.

There are plenty of bars and restaurants close by, including those in La Siesta and El Chapparal, so plenty of places to go as well as having the lakes on your doorstep and a good bus service into Torrevieja.

We've had our place there for 2 years or so and cannot fault it. However, look around before settling on just one area as there are some nice places close by and closer to the beach, the hustle of a big town or the mountains dependant on what you are looking for.

Good luck.
