Would like advice as to whether to take out home insurance with a UK company specialising in holiday homes abroad or whether to let Sabadell bank quote me?

Neither. Both will be expensive, especially the sabadell. I got shafted by them when I first bought mine. Try these [email protected]. They saved me 40 %

I use Towergate( part of Staysure) and in past 2 yrs have had to claim once each year and they,ve been brilliant. Both times a weather cause. I had a total ransacking in 2007 when insured with Caixa bank(my then banker) and it was a nightmare. I waited 11days(and nights) with no front door on for a loss adjuster and they took 6mnths fobbing us off and then refused to pay out because the area close to my home was at the time being developed by workmen building the AVI train rails. They said we should have told them of this work (which we never knew about)and if we had they wouldnt have insured us anyway because they classed the security as a higher risk. Even told us to take them to Court, and 2 solicitors and extra fees later sad to say we lost about 20,000€ worth of goods(5 bed house)and all newly furnished ready to move, and has put us back still here in Uk after 10yrs.Towergate may be dearer(was 350€ yr 'ish),but went up 100€ last yr after 3500€ claim and this yr up another 100€yr after latest claim of 1500€, but I,m not displeased because their service was superb, latest claim paid up in 10days and when you're not there you need total piece of mind and not more stress if you need to claim. Insurance is only as good as the payout procedure and although we too bank with Sabadell we still prefer UK security. If we were resident then maybe I,d think again.

You will find loads of insurance companies with cheaper prices BUT they,re only good if they have good claim afterservice and thats what counts not the price.
