I appreciate most of you are permanent residents now in spain but can I have some advice regarding fiscal representation. When we bought our holiday home our solicitor told us this was necessary if we were not in the country full time. It costs me and my husband over £300 every year!

Hi Fiona,

You're wise to ask!  

What does your abogado (lawyer) do for €300 a year?  You can set up direct debits to pay all your utility bills and whilst you may need help with your Non-resident tax, Spanish Tax Forms will do that for you for €35 per year:

If you don't let out your property in Spain, have only the one property, and don't have any other form of income here, then you don't need a fiscal representative.

If you voluntarily want to appoint one, e.g to receive mail for you, then it doesn't need to be a professional - a friend or neighbour will do, as long as they are resident here.
