I opened one of these last year in the San Miguel branch. No issues and working well. The only thing I'm unsure of is, which cash machines I can use without charge.

I haven't been back in Spain since😭

Hi Ian,

Pauline (Paulsav) alerted us to Cajamar's Wefferente account - she's had it for a while now and was very pleased with it.  In case she doesn't see your post, it may be helpful for you to read her comments in this thread:

Sabadell Bank Charges

Kind regards,

Kim

Hi Ian

Yes I do have a weferrent account (thanks Kim) and I, m still very pleased with it. Its 2yrs now a not a cent in fees have we been charged. Regarding ATM use for Craig think only their own bank ones are free (would need to read their terms in case I,m wrong). We withdraw sufficient to last us a month and it's no bother as we have a branch in our town. I use my debit card in shops leaving cash for social use. You must apply in branch if non resident and you get a customer ID which you then apply online to open a weferrent account. Their app is now available in english(wasn't when we opened). We used Google translate as there wasn't an English speaker but we are in a inland Spanish area so you might fare better, but we had no problems( in fact many laughs with the language interchange). I couldn't be happier with a bank and have used many in my 70+years.

Regards

Pauline

Thanks for the info regarding cash machines. Theres a Cajamar machine near us so we'll make a point of using that.

Have they asked you to make a one off payment of €60? There was nothing mentioned on their website before I opened the account but the guy in the branch says its not a charge, its a deposit, that you get back if you close the account. Seems a bit odd as there's always plenty money in the account.

Never been asked that, did open with large deposit at time but never been asked for anything since. Things change all the time must be a new thing.

When we opened ours we had to make a "contribution to the company capital" .

A refundable amount of 180 euros each, so 60 doesn't seem so bad!

Apparently it's a credit union not a bank, that why you make a "deposit". I might phone customer services to find out. Seems odd you've paid 180, we're being asked to pay 60 and someone else paid 0.

I don't actually mind the deposit as it meant we could leave Sabadell at €35/quarter and they were really unhelpful and rude in my local branch.
