Until 7th October my BT/Arrakis land-line phone (966) was working properly. But now I have no dialling tone and can neither receive nor make calls. Yes, my phone is fully charged.

I'd first check that the phone is still registered with its base station.

If it is, then I'd borrow a phone from a neighbour and check if that works, to find out if the connection is good.

If it is, and you're renting the phone, then you'd need to report a fault to Arrakis.

Thank you very much for your suggestions Jim. However, the problem has been solved having discovered that my DSL filter was the culprit. What was strange was the fact that although my phone line suddenly stopped working (after umpteen years with no problems) my router, into the same DSLfilter, continued to work and provide internet connection.

I had a very helpful person from BT/Arrakis talk to me on my mobile (twice) and he felt that the problem was indeed with my existing phone cable connection. However, he too was mystified by the fact that the phone socket of the DSL filter failed but the router socket did not. Hopefully, all I require now is a replacement filter.

Very impressed with BT/Arrakis service, despite the fact that their monthly charge is on the high side.
