I have read that you need 6500e in the bank and private health care if your unemployed in order to obtain residency. It has also been suggested that you need to show 600e going into your bank every month for the last 6 months. How can you show this 600e payment if your not working?

I also have a Pardon which needs updating so i went to the town hall and they said i needed something from the police station, not sure what it was, (i have a tax residency certificate) but they said this was not good enough. I thought why on earth is what was good enough then is not good enough now. They change the goal posts on the rules like the wind. My lawyer is as useful as a chocolate ashtray lately and i wondered in anyone can advise on what i can do.

TIA

Hi,

We use a solicitor in Torrevieja called PSB and they are fantastic, English speaking staff and v friendly.

We did our Residencia in November last, and, as a couple, had to show that we had 15,000 euros in the bank and a regular income from the UK. I don't know if you have any savings in the UK, but, if you have, you can make some regular transfers to show that money is coming into your Spanish account. We transferred 2 x 300 euros for two months and then just showed the authorities the bank statements. You also have to show that you have private medical insurance if you're not employed or not of Pension age.

I don't know about the issues with the Padron but you do need to have one to get Residencia. Do you have anyone who speaks Spanish that could go with you? Sorry, I don't speak Spanish or I would offer to help. Don't forget that once you get Residencia you HAVE to declare any financial interests that you may have in the UK, including an property inheritance, and it is costly.

I'm by no means an authority on Spanish requirements but that's what we had to do. Good luck.

Chris.

When transferring the money, do you just set up a direct debit or something from your UK account to the Spanish one?

The Padron issue is just confusing the heck out of me. I obtained a Padron a while back as i seemingly met the criteria that they set for that particular day. Lately, i have tried to renew that Padron and took all the forms i had used to get the Padron in the first place. I have been issued a White tax residency form which legally (according to my Lawyer) allows me to stay in Spain, and a annual tax return is filed and completed once a year. The problem arose when i went to renew the Padron, and they said this white form wasn't acceptable and that i needed something else. My Spanish is broken so i wasn't able to grasp what they were saying. I have to ask why on one particular day my forms are good enough to issue the original Padron, yet a year on etc they are all of a sudden not good enough to renew it.

There are so many inconsistencies with the legal requirements here it's unbelievable and change daily. Even reading these posts regarding the amount you need in your account for the 'green' card (residencia) change depending on who you ask. It makes trying to do thing by the book extremely hard.

Thanks for your input though.

Hi,

You can either set up a direct debit or transfer the money over every two weeks, I think I just transferred it. As long as you have it shown on your bank statement they you'll be fine. Make sure that you get the bank statement a few days before you go for the Residencia so that it's current.

We haven't been in Spain for very long but everybody tells us that they change everything all the time. I would speak to a solicitor as they should have up to date information.

I do understand the frustration at trying to do everything above board, and, as you say, everybody seems to have different answers!

I must admit that we rely heavily on PSB to let us know what's the right thing to do. It's almost as if the Spanish try to make everything as awkward as possible whilst they rely heavily on the money we bring in....grrr.

I wish you luck in trying to get yourself sorted.

Chris.

If you have online banking and are 'paperless' do you know if you can just print off your statements or do you need the originals?

Thanks again.

We just went into our Spanish bank and got them to give us statements. I don't know if they would accept printed off statements.

Chris.
