Thank you for your reply.  We have not signed anything yet and we will probably wait and travel around and rent for a while before we make any final decisions.  Property selling must be challenging at present, just as property purchases are but we will all have to remain positive about the future and hope for some kind of normality soon.

Hello well I’ve just put a deposit on a property without physically viewing. Have seen videos, done my research and homework on the area and hope to complete in October. I’m buying a two bed apartment in the Mirador complex in San Miguel de Salinas but can’t go out due to work and quarantin...

Hi, thank you for your reply and good luck with your new home.  I would be delighted if you let me know what it is like when you get to move in.  It would be great to have first hand knowledge from someone who has just purchased and moved to live in San Miguel.  I hope it won't be too long before you get to enjoy it.

Best wishes

Hi Catherine,

We purchased a property in Playa Flamenca 2 years ago. We go for the worst of the winter months. We used to get the ferry from Cork to Santander, but Brittany Ferries were most obliging and changed it to Rosslare to Bilbao, which makes life much easier as we live in Wexford. The advice you have received on this forum is very sensible. Do not buy without physically seeing it, photographs can be VERY deceiving. It great to see yet more Irish people coming to the Costa Blanca. Best of luck with your search, but do not rush it, you could make a BIG mistake that you would regret as property purchases and sales are expensive in Spain, remember the fees and taxes on top of the house price.

Just my two cents here ss well 😊.  Yes, do NOT rush or buy unseen!
We would not do it where we come from, so why here?   I have seen many people struggling with problems in the house they knew nothing about at the time of purchase..

Toss the thought of «my dreamhome» will be sold to someone else out the window....  The fact is that when you actually come down here and start viewing homes up close, you might also change your views what you thought was most important 😊.

I had spent over a year looking at properties on line, absolutely certain I wanted to be in walking distance to the beach and even in a larger town, such as Alicante. I finally came down for the whole month of January in 2019. drove along the whole coast from Valencia to Cartagena - looking at more properties than I can count!!     Then I got a call from one of the Real estate agents I had contacted and she told me she had a property I might like..but a bit inland so she took a chance....     After more viewings thanI can count that month, I walked into this place outside of the little town of Algorfa- and I knew I was home 😊. Walking distance to the beach? Large town? Garden?   Nope!!  🤣

Good luck when you finally get here, San Miguel de Salinas is a very quaint little town only a short drive from me 😊

Hi

Thank you for your reply and it is great to hear from someone who travels regularly from Ireland.  We have stopped focusing on buying a property, and are now looking forward to travelling and exploring Spain and finding the right house in the right place that way.  Only good thing about Covid is that is stops impulse buying!! Glad to hear that you love it there and travel for the winter months.

Best wishes

Catherine

Hi

Thank you for taking the time to reply.  I have just replied to another post and have said that the only good thing about Covid is that is has given us time to think and to stop impulse buying.  I think we will take a year out to travel around Spain and as you said we could find the right place somewhere we haven't even tried yet. I have researched but keep coming back to San Miguel and I will definitely be looking there.  I will keep you posted and it's nice to know you are living nearby.  Lunch may be necessary to discuss property!!!

Best Wishes

Shoot me a note when you make it out here, and if I am home we’ll definately do lunch! 😊. Keep in mind that San Miguel, just as Algorfa, is somewhat a «sleepy» town....   if you compare with Los Montesinos, where it a bit more lively overall during the evenings.     Part from right now of course, life is just tossed around everywhere now!
