Can anyone advise on their experience of exiting the car park at alicante Airport, the last two occasions the queues have been at standstill because people are putting their ticket in to exit , but apparently the barrier opens automatically , I wish they would make this clearer on the machine although it does say do not insert card in small print t

Is this from departures or arrivals.
We were at arrivals three weeks ago and departures two weeks ago and you needed to put your ticket in.
Thinking about it, how do they know you’ve paid if you don’t have to put a ticket in the machine.

Maybe they use numberplate recognition?

I'm getting so confused , when we have dropped friends off at the airport departures there is no problem , when we have parked in the car park on level 5 to pick friends up arriving the problem has been at the exit barriers at the bottom

Whenever we have been to arrivals, you pay your money at level 4, proceed down to the exit. You put your ticket in the machine and barrier number one opens, you need to manually remove that ticket. Once you’ve gone through the first barrier after a short delay the second barrier opens to let you out.
The only problems I’ve ever seen, is if someone doesn’t remove their ticket from the machine, the next vehicle has to remove the ticket left in the machine to enable them to put their own ticket in to enable the machine to read their ticket and then open the barrier.
I’ve never understood why they have a double barrier system at arrivals. But if you say they’ve changed the system so you don’t need a ticket anymore, it’s probably just teething problems as you most definitely needed a ticket three weeks ago.
It’s a bit like when they reduced the free time in departures from 15 to 10 minutes a couple of years ago. Quite a few vehicles were caught out by that and it caused chaos when people had to pay for 5 minutes parking at the barrier.
To be honest we usually have more problems trying to get out of the departure barriers, they stop working on a fairly regular basis and the number of cars you get swapping from one queue to the next is an accident waiting to happen. It takes forever for the security team to answer the intercom and open the barrier, when a ticket can’t be read.

How quaint, why do they not allow drivers to pay online before they get to the airport instead of all this faffing around, then with number plate recognition it would speed things up considerably.

Hi
For some time now, the exit from arrivals (multi storey) car park has been controlled by number plate recognition - and it was certainly confusing the first time. There should be a big sign explaining it!
Cheers
