We have recently moved from another area of Spain and have to go onto the padron in San Miguel de S. Is this at the Town Hall? Is it along the main street in San Miguel? Do we need a translator with us? If anyone has recent experience of using the San Miguel office we would be very pleased to hear about it. I'm taking it we need the usual ids - passport, Nies and Utility bill?

We also need to register for the Suma taxes - is this office at the Town Hall too? Do we need anything other than the items above for the

padron with us? Translator?

All help gratefully received!

According to their website, the town hall is at Calle 19 de Abril, 34.

I can't see anything on their website about padrón requirements, but I'd take what you say plus escritura or long-term rental contract.

IBI should be automatic and you shouldn't need to do anything with Suma.

If you've got a car, don't forget to change address for both car and driving license once you're on the padrón.

Thanks Jim. Re not doing anything about the Suma: how will they know we are here and have purchased a property in their area or do the Town Hall pass this info on?

Suma are just an agency, and they do what they are asked to do by the town halls.

Going back to your original question, I'd try first without an interpreter.

And another point I've just thought about. Some town halls, but not all, require you to produce residencia before they'll sign you on the padrón.

Hopefully someone from your area will be able to give specific information.

We went for padron to san miguel de salinas, it is at the main road. There is a red and white crossing in front. Take your Nie, your rental agreement/escritura with you, ID. We went in the morning, where helped within 5 minutes, cost you €1,00 and they need a week minimum to get it in for you to pick it up. They do speak a little english no need to bring a translator.
