Hi

My partner and I will be visiting Santa Pola for a few days to look around the area and see if its suitable for our needs to purchase a holiday home there.

We've never been to this area before so we're new!!

We want an area that's good to visit all year not just the summer months.  We're also looking at Gran Alacant.

We are looking for an apartment on a complex with swimming pool that hopefully would be open for most of the year.

How busy is Santa Pola from Nov-Feb?

Are there any British bars mainly for watching football? not that thats a given, we both prefer Spanish bars.

Are there many British that live or have holiday homes in Santa Pola?

It's attached me due to it being very Spanish TBH. But to have some British people around could be helpful.

Any advice much appreciated.

Owen

Hello

Dont be put off by pools closed over winter period --our pool doesn't close at all but nobody uses it after early Nov, not even my many, hardy Scandinavian neighbours - it's far too cold  ( & little or no pool maintenance  until around Easter for that reason.)

Cheers

Hi Deblovesspain

Santa Pola is a working town and, once the summer tourists have left in August, returns to its normal population. Bars and restaurants are still open over the winter, the Spanish culture of eating and drinking out means there will always be places open, just fewer than in the summer. If you’re visiting soon you’ll see what’s “normal”. July-August are when the Spanish holiday here and it’s rammed (but fun)!

I’ve never seen an English bar in SP though some Spanish bars do regularly show football (my OH knows where to go 🙄).

We live here about half the year and haven’t met an English community, though we know one or two Brits. You’ll probably find more Dutch and Scandis than Brits here tbh.

I think most apartments with pools are in the east of town, towards Santa Pola d’Este, so are a decent walk away (20 + mins) from the town and its shops, bars, markets etc. The further out of town you go (east or west) the less facilities you’ll find in winter.

There’s no municipal pool in town, I suppose as the sea is so good here. The beaches here are shallow and safe for kids and so warm in the summer months.

Gran Alacant is popular with Scandis and Brits and has (in my opinion) a British vibe, with the kind of restaurants and bars you would find in the UK. There’s no town centre, it does have some local shopping but you’d need to get a bus or drive to a beach or to SP.

Happy to meet up when you’re there, if we are at the same time.

Good luck in the search 😊

As albertross says , this is a year round, full working town. Population 33,000 off season going to at least double in summer. Lots of Scandinavians, French , Russians,Ukrainians and more!   There are some full time UK & Irish folk here but probably more “ part timers” .  The town swimming  pool has never materialised ( the outdoor one was closed years ago and the site remains undeveloped) but they built half an indoor pool next to the medical centre and , presumably ran out of money.  It sits empty , half built . What a waste!

There are a couple of places around town where you may well find familiar voices …one is the 100 montaditos bar on the corner by the Burger King restaurant .

Have a really good walk around town from one end to the other to get a feel for the different areas.  Houses , called bungalows here , are mostly found toward the outside of the town centre.  Playa levante, for example,  is full of apartments.

With prices here , you’ll often find anything with 3 beds for less than €70,000 probably has no lift and might well need renovated.
I do work for a real estate here, so please feel free to tap me for info , no obligation…I just like a gossip!
