Try Currency Fair. An excellent service and all on line:

https://www.currencyfair.com/?channel=R8Z631

On line gives better rates than the many operations that do it over the phone. Fewer staff means better rates.

Eg: when the quoted rate is €1.10, approx £100 would give you €109.50 and going the other way, €110 would give you £99.50. Thus going one way and back costs about 1% or ½% each way.

You can obtain a good exchange rate at the tobacco shop in santa Pola across the road from burghers king

Odd sums in cash can be changed in most places but not at such a good rate. Ongoing money for living is best done through one of the money transfer companies - NOT a bank!

If moving cash from UK bank to Spanish bank try Transferwise, excellent rate, i got 1.155, bit of setup required online but you can transfer direct from UK account or use your UK card, if using your card the transfer is virtually immediate.

This one is similar and I've used it for years - excellent in every respect! If you do over €2000 they pay incentives - not big but worth having.

I too recommend Transferwise, got 1.1768 2 days ago. However 1 tip, I set it up for low cost transfer fee then remembered at the end I had changed banks recently and incase my old bank account was still in the system, I opted for using my new bank card. Without any warning my fee went from £10.43 to £16.40. They charge extra as its an immediate payment and yes was in Spanish bank later. I didnt need that so have emailed Transferwise to put a warning message to show the increased fee. My previous dealings had all been over the phone so didnt realise as never changed the low fee service before.

Regards

Pauline.

If it were me though I would wait till after the result of the Brexit issue as if we either cancel Brexit altogether or delay it, think rate may go back up. I did it 2 days ago scared if parliament agreed on a deal it would go down. Its volatile at the moment, wait for outcome.

Depends on the amount you,re changing.

Pauline.
