Good day neighbours,

My cousin who is now a resident in Gran Alicante, has missed the boat with regards her UK Driving license, what can she do?

She has a three year International license, how long can she drive in Spain on it?

Kindest regards

Ian

I believe she can drive for 6 months after gaining residency but I would check this, so she needs to get booked in to take the Spanish driving test as soon as possible.

Is it an IDP? If it is it makes no difference. If she has had her Residency/TIE for more than 6 months she can no longer drive in Spain. As it stands she will have to take a medical, a theory test available in English, driving lessons and a practical test in Spanish. There is a chance that agreements will be reached so she can either get on and start the process or park up the car and hope.

It's been pointed out here umpteen times before but to reiterate, there is no such thing as an "International Driving Licence", never has been and never will be.

An International Driving Permit, which is what she will be talking about, is nothing more than a multi lingual translation of a licence and is completely worthless without that.

Absent an exchange agreement, which is looking less likely than ever, she has 6 months to sit a Spanish test.

Best advice is to start studying for that NOW, waiting in hope of an agreement is likely to end in tears and the use of public transport!
