We have a holiday home in Spain and visit as much as we can. We bought a Spanish car and leave it with Eco parking. It cost us 250€ / year with unlimited drop offs and pick ups from outside departures in the minibus. Then 2 minutes to where car is kept. Great service. I don’t think you can leave a UK reg car in Spain.

Hi, i don't think you can keep a UK registered car in Spain indefinitely, sure someone can give you exact details on this.

We are considering buying a Spanish car to use during our visits.

Best thing we done. Budget on roughly 800€ / year for insurance, tax(Suma), ITV and parking. The price of hire cars were extortionate and takes away the stress of them saying you have damaged it on return!

I would recommend buying a Spanish car and, as others have said, keep it at the airport if you're visiting your holiday home on an irregular basis. Insurance is cheaper and usually includes breakdown. It's the car that's insured as opposed to the driver, so you'll find that anyone over 25yo can, with permission, drive your car. Road tax is so much cheaper for older/diesel cars (based on the town where registered). You could even "car share" with a like minded soul(s) who visits at different times.

If you bring your UK car over it must by street legal at all times, taxed, MOT and insured. You'll have to drive it back at least once a year for it's MOT,(or to prevent being declared exported). Insurance may be an issue and the steering wheel may be at the wrong side. If the UK car every gets left for a long period in Spain (eg Covid etc) and the MOT becomes void then the only legal way back is via transporter.

I know what month it’s due and pay it on the Suma website with my wise card.

Do you need the reference number from the reminder ?
