Just had an email from Ryanair saying they reccomend getting to the airport 3 hours in advance of my flight tomorrow due to possible delays at security control!  Is this right ? Has anyone travelled back to UK and seen long delays ?

Have a look at above post.

The passport control at the boarding gate B for UK/Irish passengers can be very busy.

Hopefully your experience will be fine.

 Travelling remains anything but straightforward.

Best wishes for your trip

Maria

I passed through Alicante airport on Thursday, 12 May, for a 2.30pm departure. Arrived at the airport at 12.30pm,  after check-in,  if you have hold luggage,  there was minimal queueing at security. Passed freely through passport control (area B) with no delay (I'm an Irish Passport holder with an ID Card). There was minimal queuing at this control for UK Passport holders too. Alicante airport appears to have sufficient staff to deal with any potential bottle necks.

Straight through Saturday. No delays. More than could be said for STN passport control which was shambolic.

When I went back to the UK in March everything was running very smoothly no hold ups whatsoever really well organised.

There are some bottlenecks on the departures board tomorrow with several UK flights departing close together so I can see why Ryanair are asking passengers to leave extra time.

They told us that on Saturday so we went early and had to waste a lot of time in the bar after going straight through. Huge queues at STN passport control. 45 mins to an hour shuffling along to get to the front.

We flew back to LBA from ALC on Mon 16th.

Advised by RA to allow 3 hrs, at ALC everything was as normal but then our incoming flight delayed by 1hr 40 mins so a double whammy, 4 hrs to kill, we were actually in ALC airport before our plane took off from the UK.

All the issues appear to be at the UK airports, LBA at the moment is horrendous, huge queues at security both ways.

Our usual travel time home, door to door is app 7 hrs, Monday was 11 hrs, not helped by RA penny pinching and purchasing the cheapest gate possible, walking to the farthest corner of the airport, changing gates and then requiring shuttle buses to the plane at both ends.

We had a great stay at our holiday home but it was certainly no fun at all regarding the travel to and from Spain with Ryanair.

I flew back to Manchester on Sat 14th, there was a queue from before Subway to the passport control B gates, took one hour in the queue for non EU citizens - mostly Brits! If you’re Irish, you went swiftly through as an EU citizen in a different queue…

I would take heed of the notice from RyanAir, hopefully my queuing experience is not the norm but I wouldn’t risk it for the sake of one extra hour
