We are a looking for a property which is in walking distance or cycling to basic amenities, we do not want to have to drive. We are a pretty basic family, just require a supermarket and swimming beach. We do not drink, we enjoy a quieter life but not isolated, we like people. If anybody knows of a area to look towards and also areas to avoid we will be grateful. Thank you for reading my post.

Hi Leah,

We retired to Santa Pola in Feb having spent holidays here previously and like yourself decided we didn't want to have a car. We viewed many properties in various parts of the town before choosing our new home as we also wanted a property within walking distance of the beach and all of the amenities within the town. We chose gran playa as we felt that this suited us best but we also viewed properties in the port itself, Santiago Bernabeu, Playa Lisa and in Tamarit. We felt that Playa Lisa and Tamarit were too far away from the towns amenities to walk it comfortably on a regular basis and Santiago Bernabeu was predominantly urbanisations.

Good luck in finding your new property and if you have any questions then please just drop us a line.

Regards,

Russ and Necia

We are interested in purchasing a holiday home around playa Lisa area. I would be spending time out on my own . Is there many British people . My in laws live in Gran alicant but I prefer to be near the beach

My wife and I are also looking to buy in Santa Pola, within reasonable walking distance of amenities and the beach. We will be visiting for a couple of weeks from early January 2020. Preferably a 2/3 bed apartment without too many stairs (ie if 3rd floor and over need a lift!). We had earmarked Lisa and Tamarit as well as Gran Playa to fit our budget (circa 80k euros). Do others think that Lisa and Tamarit may be too far out on foot? Also, from some of the estate agent pictures I get the impression that some of these areas may be a bit deserted off season. Any advice appreciated.

Hi Steamboats,

Like Russ, we also ended up discounting Tamarit. It’s quite a walk to the fortress even in cooler temps. I’d hate to do it in the height of summer!

Gran playa runs for quite a way. You could be in gran Playa but only 5 mins walk from the marina.

Del este & veradero we decided was too far the other direction. Bernabéu is borderline , a bit like gran playa.

A lot will totally depend on your likes, dislikes, physical state and more.

We hit lucky with ours..right by the water sports outlet where levanté changes to Bernabéu. 8 mins stroll to the castle, 150m to the beach shops & bars all around but quite quiet!

Get to Santa pola, see a few places and then Walk from them to places you would most likely go to.  See how far it is. What about when it’s 30 degrees?  How far do you need to go for milk? And what about when you get older? Will you still want to or be able to go the distance ?

Think ahead...plan wisely..good luck!

Our house is near gran playa hotel, perfect for us , we dont walk into town every night when we are there for 3/4 weeks in summer , beach is 5 min walk, bar opposite us and eno supermarket 5 minute walk  and around 10 mins stroll to the harbour,  suits us just fine but we're not living their yet and will be using as holiday home for years yet ! We always hire a car and are very comfortable driving in around the main town , if you need a number for estate agent my friend owns one there and will be happy to help

Thank you Cfell63 and Dlrsantapola for your helpful advice. Aware that age is already catching up with us we have just sold our townhouse on a hillside inland near Antequera with the aim of moving to somewhere more suited to aged hips. Santa Pola sounds good.
