Hi Del69 was wondering if anyone could help us to find cheaper electricity

We are currently with REPSOL and seem to be paying quite a bit for ours,

Any help to find someone cheaper would be great.

Also the nearest REPSOL office, think it is in gran Alacant

Standing charges are higher in Spain than the UK and your charge for electric used is according to the Potencia (?), ie how much juice you have available to use. I'm in a 4 bed/4 bath country villa and we survive on 3.5 on the night tariff which is when we run the dishwasher, washing machine, tumble dryer and pool pump.
If you could put a copy of your bill on the forum, blocking any personal information, there are a lot of knowledgeable people who can advise you or you could have a look through Jim's Guides on the subject ( in a tab at the top of the page).

Hi,

We changed our gas and electric to a company called Alterna and it is much cheaper

Or www.alterna.es

We did ours in the Phone Warehouse in the Boulevard, they did it all for  us There is a phone warehouse in Santa pola

It’s now all done online.

Hi Ray, no, not all on at once, they all go on timers and we don't have air con as I prefer ceiling fans and all hot water from gas combi boiler and rarely iron at all if truth be told.

Hi Cheryl

Thanks for letting me know about the time switches. We only use our apartment about12 weeks a year so I reduced our potencia a 3 years ago to 3.5KW I think it’s tripped twice no problem though.i just thought the costs were a lot when were not thier, saying that we have not been out since January we turn the Electric off when we come home but my bills are still approx €20 a month which I still think is a lot compared to our U.K. bills.take care.

I agree.....the bill's are a lot more expensive than in the UK and like other members on here it is important to pick the right tarif. It's just a different system than in the UK where you have to pick the supply you want taking into account the appliances you use and at what time of the day you use them.

I have the night tarif with iberdrola rated at 5.75 KW as that suits me. Dishwashers, washing machine all used on the night when possible but not  necessary due to the size of my supply.

I suspect that the majority of your bill is made up of standing charges.

I will look at another supplier when I'm a resident to save any potential hiccups that could happen.
