Hi lorraine😊 santa pola is a great place to live if you really want a spanish lifestyle there are English people here but not lots we have lived here for 3 years and wouldn't choose to be anywhere else there are urbanisation outside of santa pola which have many English people but feels like you are back in England we chose santa pola because of its lovely location and people it is predominantly Spanish and that's what we wanted to integrate 😊 the town has lots of bars restaurants a beautiful marina and coastline hope this helps your decision my advice would be to rent for a while before buying anywhere, of you have anymore questions don't hesitate good luck

Michael😊

Hi lorraine, depending on age" we are on the national health system which is fantastic 😊 but if you are not eligible then I suppose you have to have a private health insurance which I do not know about.

Hello,

We were lucky enough to stay there for 3 months and are now looking to move for longer as we enjoyed it so much.

We loved Santa Pola as it is a beautiful town with everything you need.  Gran Alacant is nearby and a great place to meet expats when you feel like a taste of home!  Although there are less expats in Santa Pola I'm sure most would be happy to help you get settled and hang out from time to time.

If you are happy to spend your days relaxing, going for coast walks and taking it easy it is the place to be.  Evenings can be spent enjoying the square with a coffee, wine or cake! Afternoons are quiet time with most people staying indoors.  There are cities nearby when you want a change.  It is much more lively in the summer months

Hope this helps! Xx

Hi Lorraine44,

Yes Santa Pola is a nice place to live whether one is Spanish or non Spanish, providing you have an adequate source of funds. Just as it is in any other country.

We chose SP for all its obvious attributes, and perhaps explicitly because it has not attempted to emulate some other Spanish areas which have gone overboard to cater for visitors who prefer all things English while they are on their holidays.

Language should not be a major problem because more Spaniards appear to have picked up a basic knowledge of English, it being the first choice of foreign language offered in Spanish schools, than  UK nationals have of Spanish, due to it not being the first choice in UK schools, at least when I was  a teacher.

Health care is not a problem, yet, because as EU citizens we can use the Spanish health system free of charge using the EHIC card, and prescription drugs which have to be paid for by everyone needing them, are not normally very expensive,in our experience at least.

What will happen due to Brexit is anybody's guess at the moment.

Any other concerns, fire away.

Bienvenido

Ray
