Hi, we have a apartment in Santa Pola and when we’re not there, we turn off the main switch for electricity.

But Iberdrola is registering consumption when we’re not there and we have complained, but nothing happens.

Sometimes there is no consumption when we been there??

But so far 2021 we have payed for almost 300kWh when we weren’t there.

Any suggestions on how to move forward??

Hi, I think know what's happening. Utilities companies bill you by default reading the meter IE they read the meter and then send you a bill. When they can't read the meter they estimate, based on last year's consumption, and then send you a bill. When they can read the meter again, they adjust the bill to take account of how much their estimate/ guess was out. That happens not just with electricity but with gas and water too.

Hope that helps.

Hello

Just down the coast in La Mata we have had smart meters for several years - they do not need  access to the meter to be  read , everything is  accessed remotely, the days of visiting  meter readers are long gone. Not sure if all meters in Santa Pola have been changed but I would have thought so.

Here's a link to Iberdrolas online smart assistant to get answers to your smart meter questions, you might get more success here.

Cheers

If you have a contract you will always have an electric bill.  Their is a minimum fee to be paid when not occupied.  The minimum fee is based on the kilowatts contracted.  I also have a residence in Santa Pola but I live in the Madrid province the majority of the year and pay between twenty to thirty plus Euros a month.

Can you scan or take a picture of your bill? As others said, it could be the contracted capacity charge (which you cannot avoid).

Hi again, and thanks for all replies. Finally we got to talk to a technician on Iberdrola who knew what the fault is. Here is how it works, when logging in to your account on Iberdrola you can see your consumption pro day. And you can even download a excelfile whit the information.

And when they made a invoice you can even see your consumption pro hour every day.

The problem is that the consumption (kWh or Wh) they present in the excelfile and the daily consumption pro hour is wrong. They have a problem with precenting daily and hourly consumption.

So after “only” eight month of several phone calls and emailing and visit to their office, they told us what’s wrong.

That’s what I call service….;-(
