Legal Fees to sort out a deceased relative’s estate
Evening all
My mother and I are in Santa Pola to sort out the estate of a deceased relative. They had a property and a bank account in their name and made a will overseas but not in Spain (here’s something I’ve learned: consider making a will in Spain if you have significant assets here. Spanish succession law is quite different to Commonwealth law and there is a LOT of red tape involved for non-Spaniards or Spaniards who live outside Spain)
My question is: is it normal for Spanish lawyers to charge a percentage of the value of the deceased person’s assets as their fee, in addition to charging for disbursements and costs that arise in distributing the estate?
This payment model sounds very strange to our Australian/Spanish ears.
