Quite different to Torrevieja!   It’s an active fishing port with a long line of beaches in sub areas -Santa Pola Del Este , Bernabéu , levanté, Gran Playa , Tamarit, playa Lisa.

It is very Spanish. Not so many English speakers to be found and is a popular holiday spot for the Spanish and French especially. Lots of holiday homes where folk come down for summer...a month, 2 months etc.  you also hear some Lithuanian / Slavic/ Russian  type languages ( no offence intended to any one - I just can’t tell the difference fast enough ! ) as well as the smaller euro countries.
it does get quiet in the winter months

It has a few supermarkets, a fortress , a little “high street“  , twice weekly outdoor market , health centre, bus station. Plenty bars and restaurants ...tonnes of hairdressers...all the usual stuff.
Tall buildings are now not allowed ....I think it’s max 6? floors so no skyscraper vista any time soon.

It’s only 15/20 mins from the airport but never see or hear planes overhead.

There is an area called Gran Alacant that is part of the greater area but quite separate.  It is more of an “expat” area if that’s what you’re looking for.

What are you looking for in a town ?  What are your needs?

A very accurate description. There are fewer foreigners/expats than in comparison to other towns as you say. Those who come here tend to blend in and respect the feel of the town rather than spoil it. Its tranquility, mood and character in general made it a place of choice to relocate for many.

Santa Pola is a lovely time very Spanish and few brit bars

Lively beaches, marina and fishing harbour and a Paseo which buzzes with life and vast choice of bars and restraunts

There is a town plaza with a fortress and museums and an aquirium

Good bus links from the new bus station

Hope this helps

Absolutely agree with all the above comments. Santa Pola is exactly the type of coastal Spanish town we were looking for (after a move from a very Spanish inland town in Andalucia).

Small enough to get to know easily, big enough to have plenty of shops and facilities. A port and modern marina with miles of beaches. Very easy access from the airport and Alicante, by car or bus.

It caters well for expats and holiday home owners (very many Spanish second home owners) but is not a package tour destination because there are few big hotels.

Highly recommended (but keep it quiet!)
