Dear people,

I am 31 years old with a degree in tourism, speaking several languages. I am from the Netherlands and a EU citizen. I would like to move to spain, and hoping to find work in the tourism sector. Today I was at a Dutch speaking Gestor to apply for a NIE, and inform about the necessities of applying for a "residencia". She told me that in order to be egligible for a "Residencia" I need to have; proof that I applied to private health insurance, and at least 7000 euros on a Spanish bankaccount, plus two deposits of my wages from my Dutch employer, on that same account, but on the internet nothing of this is mentioned. Regarding a work visum, one website says that I can only solicit for work from my home country, and not bother coming to Spain. Another website says it is all about connections, but how can I make connections if I am not in Spain. I'm totaly confused. I used to think that Chinese and German bureaucracy was insane. Wasn't it supposed that being in the European union; migrating between member states should have become easier?

Off topic, my parents want to apply for a course Spanish in Santa Pola. I have read that it is in the civic center. Does anyone know when they start

Anyway thanks ahead for replying.

If you are an EU citizen, then different rules apply to this people of UK origin, for whom the situation is now very complex since Brexit. This is mainly a UK forum.

I would think your Gestor is probably correct in what she is telling you, but if you are still uncertain you could ask the Embassy of the Nederlands, or conversely make enquiries of the Spanish Embassy in Holland.

For info on the Spanish lessons , contact Encarni - [email protected]

They are well priced and classes are twice a week.

As for residency , yes, even EU passport holders, with the intention to stay longer than 90 days,  have to register as resident which does mean proving you have funds to sustain yourself.  You should also have the right to work, I believe.

As suggested above, I’d contact the embassy in the Netherlands to triple check.
