My wife and I intend retire to Spain, move to Santa Pola in November and look for a house. Initially we are going to rent so we don't have to rush a decision.

We find information that says we have to register and get a NIE number, which is supposedly easy and I have a couple of questions about this.

Do we just need passports or ID cards (wife is German) and also birth certificates? Do we need to have them translated into Spanish?

Do we need to produce a marriage certificate, if so does it need to be translated into Spanish?

Is there any other paperwork we require to register? somewhere I read about proof of income.

We would gratefully appreciate someone taking the time to assist us here. We speak no Spanish.

Take it one step at a time. The first thing is to get your NIEs:

The implication in your post is that this is a permanent move, in which case you should sign on the foreigners register immediately, this will also generate your NIE for you.

Hopefully we'll have the NIE number soon.

Could you let me know what we need (paperwork) to sign on the foreigner's register and does any of it need to be translated into Spanish?

Just search the forum for residencia - there have been a lot of posts on the topic, including members' experiences, so worth digging through.

The main things you need are proofs of income and of health cover.

As jimtaylor said, have a search all the information is here.

You will be issued the NIE when you sign on the foreigners register.

Can't someone please just give me a list of documents required for residence?

I have looked everywhere I can think of but seem to get nowhere. Someone out there must have successfully applied so please help me.

Try typing "Residencia" (sic) in the search box and choose Torrevieja for the location, that will give you a start.

Why (sic)? - it's spelled correctly.

Also, it's much better to search All the forum.
