When choosing a Gestoria (accountant) ask if they are (or member of the company) registered with the Colegio Oficial de Gestores (qualified Gestoria/accountant). Thats the professional qualification where the members are provided with yearly updates on the tax system. It makes sense to use a properly qualified accountant.
Any unqualified person can set-up as a Gestoria. There more to the Spanish accounting system than being able to add-up a balance sheet. There are a lot of business allowances and legislation that change yearly.
Tarfifa Plana changed to allow all self-employed people to enter the scheme in January 2018.
First 12 months are 50€
Months 12-18 are 140€
Months 18-24 are 195€
(the figures are not exact theres an accounting calculation for the correct amounts)
Setting up a business is fairly simple using a Gestoria. A Gestoria costs 60-70€ per month (deductible expense)
Tell them what you want to do. They register you in an economic category. I’m in 6203 - Gestión de recursos informáticos. The tax man is not sure what I actually do so it’s a catch all category Administrator of computer information systems. My business moves between graphic design, multimedia, app development and education/business training.
Theres a small charge for registering you and the business. Obtaining any licenses, complaints book and anything else required. Think I paid 300€ six years ago. My business involved being registered with an EU VAT number. It’s an area that does require the assistance of a Colegio registered Gestoria. There a lot of paperwork and business inspections required before being issued with an EU VAT number.
Something to think about beyond accountants, financing and business planning when being self-employed is “Who are my customers and where are they going to come from?”
When I do business start-up I begin with “How do I attract customers that can afford my services”
