Morning all I know this has probably been asked many times before , we have a 2 bed house in Santa Pola, when we use our upstairs and downstairs air con on at same time the power trips , when everything else is on its  all fine just when air con is on ,   could this be to do with a particular tarrif we are on ? When we are not here it's around €17 a month ? Or a problem with the air con itself ? Someone said maybe we are not getting enough power into the house ?

Many Thanks

Good morning.

The problem is NOT related to the tariff you are on.

The problem is very common. In simple terms it occurs because when you have multiple items, which require a lot of energy, you are simply trying to overload your supply. The protective devices in the distribution board (electric box!) are designed to stop you causing any damage and therefore 'trip'

There is no simple solution that you yourself can resolve, apart from minimising how much you have on at any one time. For example, trying to run 2x AC units, Electric oven, Iron etc... all too much!

I suggest you get a qualified (and approved) electrician in to check your distribution board AND to check your supply to your property.

There are a few solutions.

The most simple and least expensive is that your supply (to the property) is fine, but you need your protective devices upgrading to a correct rating, which remains within the safety requirements (hence the electrician).

The next is that you need your distribution board (electric box) upgrading.

Worst case scenario, your supply needs upgrading. This will require your electricity provider to assist also. Then likely you will also need your distribution board upgrading and perhaps even your protective devices.

So.... after all the doom mongering (sorry for that) make a note of what causes your problem to occur, then get an approved electrician in and explain what is happening. They will advise what is required.

ONLY take the advice of a friend or neighbour IF they are a qualified electrician!

Hope it helps
