Hi to everyone reading & following this great forum.

Living half the time in the UK, like many others who follow these posts, we would like some insider info on how Spanish energy costs, specifically for electricity, are evolving, compared with the jaw dropping rises being inflicted on the UK population right now.

It would be useful to be forewarned before we come over soon, rather than to learn only when we open the mailbox.

Strangely enough, there is little or no mention in the UK press, of if, or how, this grand larceny has affected Europe, and the rest of the world.

Thanks for any advice, best wishes to all our readers

Ray & Frances

Hi Ray and Frances,

I'm afraid that it's not great news in Spain either.  Like the UK, Spain has applied a Windfall Tax on its energy companies, but also on its banks, which it says are benefiting from rising interest rates.

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-59087189

Iberdrola's CEO was criticised earlier in the year when he said, "High electricity prices in Spain are a problem only for ten million fools who have fixed-price contracts, which continue to use the regulated price set by the government. The majority of users are on so-called 'free market' contracts and pay prices similar to 2018 levels after the government removed certain taxes".

Whilst this appeared to be a problem for a few of our members, with some reporting significant increases in monthly bills when Iberdrola's new billing system was first introduced, most seemed to have taken mitigating action.  Personally, I've noticed little difference in our electricity bills, year on year,

Kind regards,

Kim

Hi Ray & Frances

You don't have to wait until you open your mailbox, you could register online with your supplier. You'll need your NIE for this, and possibly your contract number.

Cheers

Hi Steve,

thanks for your advice, but I don’t have the account number here to hand, and I will be going over very soon, so it can wait.

I have noticed the leccy price allegedly wavers up & down a little each day in Spain.

Our in the UK will,  according to the BBC news yesterday, be going up along with the gas,by a modest 80% above present prices.

that’s a real increase is it not!!

best wishes

Ray
