Hi there,

We understood that we possible will be CALLED about how and when and where our corona vaccination will happen.

Also because we are new residents and language school in Santa Pola was corona related closed we can not communicate probably with doctor.

Doctor does not speak english, we habla poco espagnol.

Sometimes some spanish person calls us and we make of it is something like rabarberrabarbderrabarrber, and  THAT very fast.

Does anybody has a clue how to solve this problem.

Another thing is that we met a spanish speaking doctor in the Centro de Salud and he wanted to COMMUNICATE with us and he requested us to take a translator, traductor with us next time.

What would be the best policy to handle this situation. An official traductor could be rather expensive and untill yet we did not make many spanish friends.

Traveling the world we ONLY met multiple language doctors that at least spoke english.

We speak 4 languages but poco habla espagnol. THAT is work in progress.

I was lucky that a young girl passed doctor's door and I asked if she could help with some spanish english translation.

So this time me and doctor got a deal, but I am worried for NEXT time.

Doctor did not show to be very cooperative by the way.

The reviews of the Centre de Salud are also not very enthusiastic, by the way....

I hope somebody could give us some suggestions

Best regards,

Ronald

Hi Ronald,

Details of Spain's Covid-19 vaccination programme are available on the government website:

https://www.vacunacovid.gob.es/?s=03

Regarding translators, although some medical centres do have English speaking doctors, State healthcare provision is not obliged to provide translators and they usually have a sign up at receptionsaying you need to take one to appointments.  I can recommend a Spanish to English translator, but as you'll have to pay for the service, perhaps it would make sense to find one who can translate from Spanish to your native language?

Kind regards,

Kim

Hi Kim, Thanks a lot.

Just in case I can not find a friendly person to help me out to translate once when it is necessary, could you inform me about the rate of the  spanish to english translater ?

Thanks,

ronald

Hi Ronald,

I've used Frankie Pow Translations:

https://m.facebook.com/francesca.pow.1

Mobile: 610 553 426

When she accompanied me to a residency appointment in 2017, she charged €50, but I don't know what her current rates are, so best to contact her direct.

Kind regards,

Kim

Hi Ronald,

I met a friend today, who's a gestor in Rojales.  He said you should expect to pay €15 for translation services at a medical appointment - some may charge extra if it takes more than an hour, so check their fees before committing to using one.  He also said you may be able to find someone who is cheaper, but they're unlikely to be working legally.

Kind regards,

Kim

I was in Poland visiting relatives.   We had never been there in our lifetime. Speak not one word of Polish.      Used google translate and got on like a house on fire. I’m not tech savvy at all. so give that a go and don’t worry. It’s SO EASY 😎.

We are actualy laptop people but for this special purpose we could consider doing an investment in these modern machines...

How much would be a cheaper one, not too much functions and where to get or order it?

Yes they seem expensive.   Mine was about £600 !  I hated the thought of a small screen.  I still can’t do anything in a phone like some do 🙈.    I thought it was great going to laptop , I then became a lap top person too and a dinosaur.   This Apple ipad is the best thing I have EVER bought But.  my friend has a Kindle, so lightweight and so much cheaper and a larger screen   She does everything on it ,  she is no spring chicken either so i will get the model she has and send you the info.   Maybe someone on here has more advice too.   She’s just said it’s a HD Fire 10.    just looked on Amazon  £189.99 !

Hi Ronald,

Do you have a smartphone?  If it's Android (rather than Apple), you will have Google pre-loaded with a search field on the home screen and if it has a microphone symbol in the field, you don't even have to type anything, you just say, "Hey Google, translate Spanish to English", or vice versa.

I remember a (very rare!) occasion in a Spanish shop, when I spoke more Spanish than the shop owner spoke English, so he grabbed his phone, spoke Spanish into it, then showed me the translation on the screen.  It's proved invaluable on a number of occasions.

Kind regards,

Kim
