Hello

We recently purchased a plot with approx 100 olive trees but the man who used to tend these has retired.  Any advice on finding someone new would be appreciated as we can't harvest ourselves.

Also how does it work? We've heard that they take the crop but we get some oil in return?

Thanks

Cheryl

We only have a few trees and the first year we took them to the local press and were told to return in January when we were given the choice between payment, oil, or a combination. Not realising how much oil we would get, we opted for the oil and we are still going two years later! This time we will have one  large bottle and take payment for the rest.

Have you thought about asking in local cafés if there is anyone willing to look after the trees year round? I'm not sure how much you would be left with but if it keeps you in olive oil for the year it's better than leaving them to rot.

Thanks for the reply.  We'll continue to try asking about.  As you say, we don't want the olives to go to waste.

Any other ideas gratefully received!

I live nearby & have answered on a couple of times. My too ( my friendly farmer who collected my trees) has since died.(years ago  hence no contact. When I was here 19 yrs ago. no Brits. Now quite a few  more...

Two ways.... ( as I did years ago & ask) or talk with the Immigrants & how they go on. Simply compare. But enjoy the aceite de oliva. I still enjoy 5 litres of virgin oil at about 10€ & a drink. (shssssss don´t tell no IVA!) Who would tell?

We also have a few trees and are just outside Sax town. Looking for someone to come and harvest and arrange for the olives to be pressed into oil. If anyone can help, we'd also be interested in any contacts.
