Even the King of Spain was on the scam, the mayor of Orihuela Costa has been charged with embezzlement.

The owner of the company that was faking padrons to back date residency applications, which he has admitted doing has just been made a mayor, you could not make it up.

There is another person who has actually served 5 years in prison over some scam regarding contracts, he also purchased a property for €180,000 which he sold for 5 million euros a few months later,  there's a word for that.

You are so right!

Unfortunately no recommendations from friends or fellow countrymen seem to be a guarantee. And it isn’t a question of being gullible or totally without building knowledge. In Italy I had a house built to my specifications, and every single person who worked on the build was PROUD of their handiwork!

Just an update on all the posts regards this man and monies taken etc..

After my post, he took money from me, so I discussed with my Spanish solicitor. He agreed that it would be too expensive and not financially viable to employ him to chase for me. He therefore advised  to go to the Guardia Civil and do a Denuncia.

I did this, not expecting to hear anything, or expecting it to be thrown out as a civil matter. But, it hasn’t been. I have to give a statement in court next month.  Apart from a few euros for an interpreter it has cost me nothing.  The Guardia civil took it very seriously, took statements and copies of all the evidence, including messages on my phone.

I would  suggest to anyone else who has lost money to do the same.  To me it is principle, I may not get anything back, but I tried to help the man and  he took my money.  So it’s about consequences.

Hope this helps anyone in the same situation
