It´s August. UK parliament & the pound GBP shutting down & Brexit is shelved again. I thought to Spain.

But aside, not understanding entirely, “cockney-rhyming” slang, but admiring their methods, (in order to confound the UK “plod-force” & so the authorities didn´t quite understand about what was being talked about!).

Although many years ago after living in the London “twang”. & Many many years later, I visited (looking for rural Spanish properties in Spain).

I ended up courtesy of an estate agent however, for three days in an Urbanización 2000.) Costa Blanca. In where I stayed & think, next door, lived, heard her to exclaim a British “lady”, wearing hair-curlers, in the street,& shouting to her delightful son,“Come in now you ***** *****, put yer BMX away & get yer **** ass in the ***** tea, ´cause ***** Corries on in the mo! Your egg ´n chips are in the oven!” I think she was British?

Many Spanish natives employ much the opposite as UK & other immigrants, wonder why the Spanish talk so loud! I was informed that during the Franco era, it was frowned upon by the authorities to hear groups &, in the local cafe political culture, to chat in “whispers” or risk being “whisked” away, or so they say.

So now in modern Spain, a new (UK) culture has emerged. For eg: “new-speak”

Taxi (some bloke who´ll take you for a ride)

Urb, (so Brits don´t refer to them as housing estates)

Ex-pat, (so as they are not thought of as immigrants), Rhymes with prat.

Beni (another name for Blackpool, but with more brown/red Brits & less mobiles on the beach, now called the “Triangle)

Torre (another name for Torre pronounced a little like torrid). Near Lah Marina urb..

Breakfast: (where´s the full English?) Piella´s on for tea!

Where´s the Brits to meet?, (in the pub, having a full English).

Geographically, what´s the main town in Iceland? (Torrevieja).

“Med” diet (fish n chips, KFC & a big Mac).

I´m sure there´s more. I hope you´re all having a good August. Everything´s shutting up here. The town will be quiet, the locals off down to the beach!

Peace.

Nice one Villas. I thought of you when I went to Alicante airport a few days ago to pick up Margaret. Whilst loitering in the arrivals hall, I heard two blokes chatting.

The first bloke said 'I live in kewsarda'. He lives in Quesada and can't even pronounce it properly.

At some point the second bloke said he'd just got back from Majorca and was waiting for his lift. The first bloke said 'why didn't you drive there?'

Villas - You are a legend.  PS: Read the Benidorm Triangle as you suggested.  Absolutely fantastic. It should be published.

Hi Kim, when you say you southerners use round vowel sounds, does that mean you bung in another letter?

Saying Barth instead of Bath is bad enough, but friends who've been here longer than us have never got out of the habit of saying Lar Marina.

I'm sure I've seen 's in use when we've been oop north to the Valencian province.

I'd like to see you roll your Rs.

I'l also like to learn about your differences.
