Type 2 Diabetics!

I'm Type 2. It depends on whether or not you're in the Spanish health system or not.

Initially I was going to our medical centre each month for the jab test, but they then issued me with a free monitor, plus a prescription for the test strips, and I do my own reading twice a week.

I also have a blood test every six months for a general check including that for the average reading HbA1c. If I'm outside the acceptable range, I see the doctor and she adjust the dosage of Metformina I take. This is also on prescription, but if I were to buy it, it would only be €1.94 for 50.

The thing to be aware of is that they don't prompt you that a blood test is due - you have to ask.

Thank you.  All this information is helping me to build a picture of how I need to deal with my diabetes, which would appear to be more erratic than your own.  I don't think I'll be in the health system initially until I finally sell my UK home and make a permanent move.

My spot readings fluctuate a lot, and sometimes appear alarmingly high. However, I'm encouraged by the fact that the HbA1c results have for the last few years been within the acceptable range. If your diabetes isn't under the same control as myself, I think you should ask your UK doctor how he thinks this should be monitored.

My husband goes to medcare in benijofar and the nurse called suzi checks him on a regular diabetic plan which is the same as the UK, blood, eyes, feet, weight etc. It might be worth having a chat with them. You have to pay but it's well worth the peace of mind.

No they're English, that's the good thing. They are a doctors surgery and depending what plan you have it gives you appointments with the English speaking doctor or you can pay as you go. They also have a english dentist as I needed an urgent appointment when I broke a tooth.
