Hi there I'm a mum of 3 kids aged 12,10 and 5. I teach fitness classes. My husband works in IT. We are seriously considering selling our home and initially renting in or around Sax. We've lost the love for schools in the UK, the weather and lifestyle  change is definitely needed.

I'm just wondering what everyone's thoughts are on moving. Are schools good in the area? Would I find work if some sort? Any advice or thoughts would be great. Thanks

Hi, Many may not agree, but for me, yes. Obviously a long involved decision for is you.

For having children of those ages, the prime concern & for you to manage work for finances in their future.

For children, in Sax life-style change is beneficial & the older schools are good, but primarily getting a grip on the Spanish language is the focus for you & the children (who learn quicker than adults).

Hi,

We moved to sax last April with 2 young kids 2 & 4 at the time and we are enjoying the change my son is in pre-school in sax and he is coming along great with his Spanish and my daughter who is due to turn 3 at the end of June will enroll into the same pre-school. We are quite a young family myself being 33 and my partner 31. As for work I couldn’t comment as I work away from home and my partner is a full time mum which will be changing once my daughter goes into pre school she will be looking into getting her Spanish to a level where she can find some employment and keep herself busy.

But definitely the best thing we done was moving to Spain, kids are outside playing all the time and not stuck in house playing computers and watching tv all day.

And the best thing for me is that how relaxed everything and everyone seems to be.

The only thing I would say about being in sax for us is that there is not a lot of activities for the kids in the area itself so you have to take a short drive to Elda , or a bit further to Elche , Alicante etc say 30 mins to each of those places then your looking at an hour to Torrevieja area, but at the same time it’s good to go to these places for days out then to get away from it all when you go back to sax. But that’s my opinion and other people have there own opinions and preferences.

Hi Lynsey, Myself. my partner Mandy and her daughter (15) are just about to move to near Elda, not far from Sax and absolutely cannot wait to start our new life in Spain. I am in IT and will carry this work on from Spain but working for my clients in the UK and occasionally flying back if required. We have now been through the whole process of selling our home in the UK, finding the area in Spain we thought most suited us and being fortunate enough to find our dream villa where we all know we will live happily ever-after… Our experience with a property agent and lawyer has been amazing, with everything sorted for us including bank accounts, NEI, purchase, the lot! That's not to say we are looking at everything through rose tinted glasses, not at all! There is the language, local laws and regulations, income, property management different from the UK, Brexit issues, making sure Eilish meets new friends, etc, etc... but nothing that will defeat us! We have decided to have Eilish home schooled using the Oxford Home Schooling IGSCE courses with online tutors as required. Eilish will study the specific courses she needs (5 GCSE's) and take her exams in Jan 2021. Apart from a small pot of savings after all is paid up from the move we need to keep an income going from my IT work but plan to open a BnB and self-catering business over the next 12 month and become totally self-sufficient. Learning the Spanish language is a must and we have all started the various online and app courses, Mandy and Eilish have taken to it well but I will take a bit longer, lol.. These forums have been a fantastic source of information and help and we already have a number of couples and families that we are meeting up with as soon as we arrive.

I believe to make the move to Spain work for anyone, you need yourself and your partner/husband/wife to be totally positive and committed to making your new life a success, no matter what it takes! It is a new life, treat it as such and go for it with all you are and you will find the Spanish people and the expat community will help you in any way they can. I have always been a patriot, served in the RAF and proud of my country... however for some years now I have seen the UK slip slowly into total chaos and now with a parliament that cannot govern, so for us, it's time to make the biggest move of our lives, start again in the most fantastic place to live and enjoy our lives as we deserve to.

I hope our story so far is some kind of inspiration to you and of course you alone must decide if you can be positive and  committed to such a change but I, Mandy and Eilish are definitely ready and willing, here we come Spain.

If you would like any other details of what we have done and the many pieces of the jigsaw we have had to manage, please feel free to PM me and I can give you my number to chat if it will help. Best of luck and really hope you make the move...

Regards Paul and Mandy
