Hi there,
I have no idea whether you have had any replies to your request for a trustworthy builder on private message.
What you will find is that any builders people engage, usually start off reasonably well, but gradually lose interest, go missing to pick up their children from school, get the family shopping, attend every fiesta or procession on religious and national holidays.
My bilingual builder, was legit, living in your area, used exclusively Spanish trades, and started our contract very late and very slowly. They could have finished all the work by December 2020, but I am still struggling to get them to put right some rain damage to my property caused by wrong decisions in their methods.
For the hundredth time, I have been left in the s**t, with a part of my house that I cannot use, for personal reasons. How can anybody imagine they can run a business like this? But they will always have a constant flow of Brits and other foreigners who know nothing about their incapability of finishing a job and the old-fashioned methods they use and who will think they have hit the jackpot with an English-Spanish speaking guy in charge of everything.
So I am having to replace this lazy lot with others to finish the work necessary to be able to live normally in my house. I have found some reliable and competent British people to take on this task.
I will be naming the first ‘builder’ in the Named & Shamed on the Costa Blanca group, which I was reluctant to do but I feel that he has now forced my hand. Then we’ll be seeing whether it will be worthwhile to go ahead with legal proceedings against him.
You will also find that everyone is in cahoots with all the professionals you need. For example, the estate agent recommends his favourite lawyer for your purchase, who recommends architect mate, who recommends builder and so on. All in each others’ pockets!
Sorry to sound so negative but only listen to individuals who have had work done and are satisfied with it all. Find out as much as you can, even going to see the work if possible. Just being registered as a company is not enough to guarantee the quality of the work.
Good luck,
Janice
