There is Deposicompra in Sax. Also try Rastro Reto behind the Bassa el Moro centre in Petrer. They have another larger outlet near Alicante too. They have new and old furniture and offer free delivery. Another plus is that they are an anti drug charity. Bassa el moro can be seen easily from the A31, turn off at the commercial centre then turn right at the island with fountains on it. go past the back of Bassa el Moro to the next island, then turn left. You will see Bricorama and Lidl dead ahead. At the next island turn back in the direction you came and drive past Bierzo Leon. Turn right and Rastro reto is on the left hand side.

Hi Adrian! Thanks for your reply and input! I'm visiting Sax next Wk on a first old townhouse property search! My limited ability to view the streets doesn't show much in the way of Cafe Society (exterior bars/cafes). I understand it's an inland Spanish town and not a tourist coastal resort but it appears to be a little shabby not very chic???  Kind Regards Terence

Hi Terence,

Sax is about 35 minutes inland. The old town is very pretty and there is a typical street market on Mondays. There are lots of cafes and bars, also a fair smattering of Brits. For food it is largely Spanish fare although the Chinese has picked up lately. We go to 42 Gran Via for pizza and find it to be excellent. The Indian is not for us, expensive small portions. There is an American diner which can be hit and miss. As for shabby, I think it is better than a lot of towns in the area as there is high employment levels among the Spanish. They have been very welcoming to us and provide a vibrant atmosphere with fiestas almost all of the time. If you want something more "British" then you need to look closer to the coast, although Pinoso has more in the way of british cafes and is only 20 miles away. If you are looking for trad Spanish and VERY picturesque, take a look at Biar.

regards,

Adrian

The directions to the rastro should read Bricorama and Aldi, not Lidl.

Hi Terence, I don't know Mark. We used |Claire and Steve at Fabfincas who went the extra mile helping with my padron, NIE number ITV on the car and lots of other things. For DIY Bricorama is expensive but useful for single or small items as it is close. Leroy Merlin at Elche is like B and Q and the staff speak English. Bricodepot at Crevillente is good too. Both are about 30 minutes away.

rgeards,

Adrian.

Hi again,

With regards to pavement cafes, there are lots, we go to Las Palmeras in the main square. The menu is in English and Spanish. We also go to Victorias and El Quijote, both friendly places which have a good mix of English and Spanish customers. Bar Ibiza has tried to overcharge me twice so we give it a miss. La Senda is good too and authentically Spanish as is Mio Cid. The Istanbul is Moorish in style and very nice. There are loads of others , too numerous to mention. We have experienced friendliness in all these places, no negative vibes at all.

regards,

Adrian.
