Hi, Our daughter and her partner are due to visit us in Spain in September, I think they land in Barcelona to look around there and are hoping to be able to travel by train down to Alicante, has anyone done this journey and does anyone know how far ahead you can book tickets and with whom ?

Thanks in advance.  Ruth

Hi  Have a look at trainline in google they will give you some ideas and then book with Renfe (train company) as they dont have booking fees the further away from the date you want to travel the cheaper the fare.  Hope this helps  Gillian

Hi Ruth

From Alicante they could also catch a train to Balsicas, which is much nearer to Torre de la Horadada.

Cheers

I have done Barcelona to Alicante by train various times. Interesting journey mostly along the coast. Prices are good and the trains are excellent. Coming from the UK you will be impressed by both trains and prices.

Trains go from Sants Station in Barcelona.

Thank you Steve unfortunately we do not have a car to pick them up from Balsicas, which is a lovely little station !   From Balsicas they could also go to Madrid, which I think is in their plans. !  x

Thanks for that info,  we actually live here but usually use the buses.  Our daughter is visiting from Australia so I imagine  she will be impressed by the train service and the costs ☺️

Hi Ruth

I've never actually caught a train from Balsicas, and you appear to have some knowledge? Is it easy to park there?

Cheers

Hi Steve,

Balsicas is a small station but we have occasionally dropped friends off there, no problem with parking but not sure about long term parking.  Hopefully someone else will have more information.

Regards Ruth.
